Most of Kingslance's stuff is trash not worthy of being called armor. I would be very careful of what you buy there, as most of it does not come close to the quality you'll need to fight properly. I've had good service from them, but I also stick to things that are hard to screw up-like chainmail. I...

I've seen fort battles where they are timed, and that seems to work out well. Basically, the defenders have no resurrections and the attackers have unlimited resurrections. Time how long it takes to take the fort, then switch sides and time it again. The side with the lowest time wins. Bridge battle...

I''ve always had to take my stakes waaaaay out to get a proper pavilion shape without poles. Of course, with natural fiber ropes there is considerable sag and stretch over the course of the day. But don't dare tighten the ropes when they're warm! (The sound of a centerpole exlploding near your head ...

Hell, even Kevlar helmets have stopped AK-47 rounds. Note, I did NOT say they were " proof " against AK-47 rounds. Point being, given the right conditions (velocity, angle etc.) the Kevlar helmet worked. Given the wrong conditions, you've got serious head trauma. And that's with a standard round and...

If you want a period example, you can just discount blows received to the arms and legs entirely. That is called "combats between the four points" or t"the four members" (something like that, anyways.)

I'll make this easy for you. Go to your local hardware store. They have "hobby" metal strips in there. I'm sure you can find som pre-finished metal that will work for you there. Take the appropriate width (have to look up how wide it can be) and bend it around your leg. That's all an armorer would d...

Good points all. The only thing I could add is to mention that custom pieces can often take 5-10 times as long as an "off the rack" piece by the same armorer. But, I don't know any armorers that will charge for their time like that, because they wouldn't pay that much themselves!

Actually, a model G-467 thermonuclear weapon is the single most effective weapon that I've ever seen. In single tournament, it simply can't be beat. Of course, there are larger thermonuclear weapons, but given it's speed from ignition to final burst, I find it to be a well-rounded weapon, allowing y...

THAT would be cool! I would love a 14th century battle where bombards, hand-gonnes and the like mixed it up with other weapons (no great swords, though, they're Renaissance weapons). I have mixed emotions about 12 foot spears. On the one hand, they are definitely period. They add realism to our fighting, and restricting weapon lengths is...well, rules lawyerly. We often have scenarios in Calontir where we restrict the types of weapons used. For instance, a popular scenario is wh...

There are a couple of sticky points here; Yes, mail of the 12th centuries stopped arrows. Muslim arrows. From a light bow. Mail of the 14th centuries didn't stop arrows. English bodkin pointed-arrows. From a long bow. So, depending on what time frame we're looking at, you can honestly say that mail ...

Memorial Day Round Table event-KC

Last plug for the Round Table event this weekend (memorial day) in Kansas City, MO at the Lilies war site. You can find out more at: http://forgottensea.org/arthurian/arthurianevent.html

Should be great fun, and unlike anything done so far. (Five suits of armor and a 23' round table later, I'm glad it's finally here!)
