The biggest problem I have with camelbacks is that I loose the nipples off the straws...otherwise they are great for the woods battle where you can't take off your helmet..

My By my Hand mace is similar tho the tape is less ornate and stops at the head. I shaved and stained the handle with a nice Minwax Cherry Stain. One of our old dogs used to have a kite shaped sheild that he made by curving a piece of rattan into the kite shape and using leather to make the face of the sheild. In theory that would be an acceptable striking edge, wouldnt it? It was rattan after all... I think it would fall under the experimen...

For several years I've fought in a style of figure eight ankle brace that also has plastic plates on the sides of the ankle to keep them from turning. I can't seem to find an equilivent thru my on line searchs....Any suggestions?

The thing to remember about hydration is that it is best to start pushing water and potassium several days BEFORE you fight, not just the morning of. The shell is cotton and the burn test I just did seems to indicate a natural fiber. It looks just like these: http://home.insightbb.com/~gildedlily/gambeson.html

Linen is cooler, i fear many in the SCA are falling prey to the great marketing of underarmour rather than it's actual performance.
