Oh no, you midrealm cats can know how to thrust. A good fighter should be able to deliver a good thrust, too. And most of the fighters I run into on a regular basis, while throwing lighter than the body, are not playing "got your nose" - it is an apparent, reasonably solid thrust. of cours...

Part of the issue is that folks that are drawn to the SCA are looking for those heroes...it's upsetting to them when they see the warts. The type we draw wants to believe in something. They also revile in tearing us down. The sweetest moment in this game come from when you can lift others up and mak...

Ever stomped on shafted arrows under foot in a scrum? I have. Just like say, grabbing someone's spear shaft and attempting to break it over a solid wall (like at Pennsic or Gulf Wars...which I have never done...) it was a totally douchey move and I felt bad about it afterwards. Felt pretty good whil...

I've done the haft thing. With the advent of unpadded fishing rods as 'polearms' people have forgotten the good soft thunk of a padded polearm. The Wraith of KONG

So I made this Mace once…I wanted to experiment with a couple of things regarding maces as all the pre-formed heads I had found so far, while they looked really good (Mandrake, By my Hand back when I had to put extra foam on them) didn’t really hit very hard, or at least, didn’t sound ‘corre...

a large diameter tree and ratchet straps will probably work. Yup, or if you have heavy duty rope you can make a tornaquet. Anton and I did my first shield this way. If you use a heavy rubber mallet to help pound the curve in as you go, it is faster. Nowadays, I just buy my sheilds pre-curved from W...

Hmmmm.... I wonder about taking a larger diameter and shaping it down to look more like a sword. Would probably have to also put in a large fuller, or some holes to lighten it.... but taped it would still look okay. Trust me, you really don't want anything more than the 1.25 round rod. It would be ...
