Ends in less than 24 hrs and still under $30. Still a pretty good deal if you need something like this.

The plan is to make some authentic feastware sets instead of the more modern steaknives I usually make. This one is from the 15th, I did it in pattern welded steel because I felt like it, though...no documented counterpart to that aspect. I'll be finishing up an ivory handles set of late period stuf...

And on the tenth day...well ok, somewhere after the 7th day and slightly before canned SPAM, the Lord said unto the people of Isreal: Behold!...I bring unto you the ... Jelly Knife ! Yep, that's the one. I cut 18 ga mild with it, but not very good. 18 ga stainless (316) tore the teeth off. I sent the first one back and got another at their expense, but it met with the same fate. I still have it. I'm thinking of some sort of modern art-deco sculpture....weld some of my scrap to i...

No good piece of filthy, good for nothing, hunk of worthless, metal chewing shit of a boat anchor.
I think that about sums up my experience with one that would supposedly cut 14 ga stainless.

I have a set of dies off a heavy duty one. I'm making the side plates and such. They're great for rolling skirting for a helm and similar parts. For the price of one that will easily do 16 and 14 ga, I'd rather buy a small plasma torch. ------------------ Krag von Berghen KragAxe Armoury Member's Pi...

Beat it into submission over a form made from an old concrete/jackhammer chisel or something. Maybe a plumb-bob or something? I'm making some stakes for various things like that from some 1.5-2" bearings. they're made from 52100 steel, so they can take a lot of abuse! Mild steel forms pretty easily ...

I was going to make a small calendar book. Unfortunately, 100 degree heat and 90% humidity did not go well with the curing and such of the hide. I could still salvage it if I went ahead and tanned it, but I'd rather give it a shot without using acidic solutions. I think I'll wait until fall and get ...

For spangen panels, I can do it in about 5-10 min/per panel. This is dishing, and planishing to a nice smooth finish. For a helm half, it takes me at least 30 minutes total per side to get them like I want them...smooth and symmeteric. I guess I just work slow http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile....

If you had two identical weight/thickness plate armours, the hardened one will "soften" the blow less. The unhardened one will tend to give more (as Loren stated) and eventually dent. If the armour doesn't dent, that means it's expending the force of the blow some other way...transfering it to whate...

How stiff/flexible and thick should this be? I'm making some out of the wild sheep I killed, but I've never actually handled the real stuff. I should have about 20 sqr feet of it when I'm done. The only shaping I do to my tracks is to sand/gring the surface to make it a little more smooth and to add an occasional rivet setting depression. You can't fit the track inside a helm without cutting the base a bit, but other than that..plain ol' track works just fine. ------------------ Krag von B...

Here's a piece I'm putting together for myself. This is the shortsword forged from the rusted/pitted leafspring I posted a while back. It has deliberately been left slightly rough. I want it to have an "antiqued look". That, and the pitting was so deep in the leaf spring, I would have had to thin th...

Well, I've been messing with this now for a while and am starting to get the hang of it. Yes, steel has a grain structure. When a blade is properly heat treated, the grain boundries are re-done, so it makes little difference how the blade was made. Any sword/knife is only as good as it's heat treatment! The problem points on large blades are usually sharp corners left around the tang/bl...

The shape of your helm depends on the shape of your head. I usually use a somewhat flattened oval. Sometimes I use an elliptical shape if the head in question needs it. If you make one using an oval, you can tweak it to an ellipse after it's riveted...to a degree. I'm talking up to 1/2" differences ...
