Well, looks like we're down to about 8-10 persons. In that case, I won't bother renting port-o-cans. Our two restrooms in the house can keep up with the flow! We're supposed to have intermittent thunderstorms. I have plenty of crash space indoors in case of bad weather. Tents can be set up under the...

So, someone I work with needs this weekend off, therefor My vacation has been cancelled. If we don't have to work overtime this weekend I will still be there. However Dell seems to take a keen interest in screwing me over, so I am guessing that I will have to work. I will know for sure Thurs. No pr...

Yes and no......We are out of city limits so I have no problem with loud bangs, however, there are lots of livestock and houses within range of any type projectile. As long as it's blanks or wax/paper wads, no problem, but no bullets, balls sabots or any other true projectiles. It'll depend on a cou...

At least with the rain lately we'll have grass and not just dust! There shouldn't be any sign of a burn ban either! We'll still do some forgework at night, I just didn't want to try and do a half dozen different projects. I moved all my forges/furnaces to the front of the shop Friday...but they stil...

Saxon ridgehelm for sale
This one is almost done. It will be finished next weekend. Before i finish it out, I figure I'd offer it here and give the buyer a couple options. Below is how it is right now. I'll finish it out with a couple bars on the face (done un-obtrusively...ugly grillwork sucks!) and a moderate polish acros...

Forging takes a significant amount of time and I'd like to keep this more oriented towards armouring as opposed to blademaking. I plan on firing up the forge(s) at night with the primary goal of hot-raising. This will be a coal/charcoal forge. I also have propane forges for bladework I will light up...

"But, if you use 300 series SS, the only advantage you are getting is the lack of mantinence. " Different 300 series can have very different properties. 316 stainless is quite a bit more *springy* than mild after being shaped. The work-hardening makes a significant difference. The as rolled sheet is...

Go to a scrap yard and get an old circular plow disc. Get someone to torch cut the center out and to knock a couple screw holes through it for you. These work well with about a 3" lip welded onto it around the edge to keep the coal from falling out. You don't want the center too deep...that just mak...

The showers are almost done and the smelting area will be enclosed by this weekend. I won't have the clay furnace up, but I'll have a *make-shift aggie-built smelting device" up and running! Mild rusts quicker than heat-treated!!?? Should be the opposite. The hardening put a lot more micro-stress risers in the steel which are all beginning points of rusting. They etch at drastically different rates as well. You should be able to get hardened steel to a better polish, though. The smoothe...

Morgan, Yes...we have a lovely ravine with a small bridge. I might even be nice and clear out the poison ivy . I have an arc welder, not a mig. I USE 308L rod for welding mild to stainless. Welds are plenty strong for this type application. You need to sand off the zinc around where you weld or you'll get splattering and porous welds. A wire wheel on a bench grinder will do this. Set a box fan nearby to blow...

Gruber, My thoughts exactly. I've never asked for any money up front on armour or knives. I've even turned it down when it has been offered. The only exceptions being if someone wants precious metals on knives. I generally avoid any comission for something that is *stupid* looking that wouldn't sell...

Anyone get some good pics? Anyone who has some pics can send them to krag@kragaxe.com AND dhalter@tamu.edu.
