Got pics of that? Sounds pretty neat! I'm building a new beltgrinder and will be converting the old 1hp Grizzly into a buffer.

I always have extra ends and drops of this around from knives and such so I've been putting them to good use! S-O, I'm quite familiar with the terminology. Today's market place has made damascus synonomous with pattern welding. True, pattern welding, damascus, and damascene are not technically the s...

I've actually been making some armour periodically. More like...as I unpack a box that has an unfinished project in it, I try and finish it out! Most of my time lately has been with knives and damascus. So naturally...the two get combined. Here's some fittings for a ridge helm I'm finishing up this ...

No, it's well south east of Brady. I live in Bryan (College Station...Texas A&M University). Actually, I'm 8 miles east of town now in Wixon Valley. The first one we had was in Kerrville with no real power or modern conveniences. This one will be much more civilized:). I have a 40' x 30' shop, two p...

Armour-In in Central TX?

I'm thinking of another armour-in again. My shop is just about finished...or at that good enough for now stage anyways! We have plenty of camping space, indoor crash space and I'll have a pair of outdoor shower stalls. We have a nice creek bed for purty good bridge battle and a couple acres for gene...

I can't see a bead-making torch as being very useful for metalworking. I've seen some made form weed-burner torches and firebrick. Reil-burners are basically a bunsen burner on steroids and capable of very high heat output. For sheet metal heating, you could do something like this and use a shorter ...

I have about 80 items I've bought out of Germany that are similar to this. Some pan out, some don't. Several of the ones that were good more than make up for the ones that were crap. Hey, 15N20 is just another nickle alloy, high carbon steel. It's nice for damascus/pattern welded blades since it is high carbon steel and will hold an edge all on it's own. The nickle content makes it resistant to etching. Mixed with 1084 (manganese high carbon steel) you usually get a very contras...

I had heard somewhere that A6 was occaisionally used for items such as saw blades where a lot of flexing was expected. I have a utility blade made from it that I regularly abuse the hell out of. It just seemed really similar to it. I'll mess with it again sometime to see what all I can get out of it...

Thanks. It does kinda look topographical. The 15n20 *should* have given a very high contrast which would have been a bit shinier than the 1022 so it would have had a "shimmering" look to the pool pattern. I'm not sure what you'd call the two-tone grey [img]http://forums.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.g...

Here's a seax I've been working on for what seems like forever. It's finally approaching completion along with our new home's fixing-up (which has been diverting most of my "playtime" since July). It's about a 11 inch blade with a couple different patternwelded steels. The outer most layer was suppo...

That sounds cheap for 316 in 16 or 14 ga. Last time I checked it was ~$100 for a 14 ga, 4'x8' sheet in Bryan/College Station. Then again, down here I think they often confuse stainless with gold at the new steel suppliers! P.S. I think 316 is worth the extra effort it takes to shape it! I often find...

Hydrofluoric? I hope you mean Hydrochloric and that you don't have vats of HF just sitting around your house! Vinegar will do the same thing. Just soak it overnight and rub off the next morning. Works on pretty much any fire scale. ------------------ Krag von Berghen KragAxe Armoury Member's Pics

Two basic choices in stainless sheet metal. 304 and 316. 304 is common "structural" stainless steel. It's much easier to form than 316, but will rust if not cleaned periodically. 304 is easy to find at scrap yards. Ductwork and such are often made from it. 316 is your "food grade" stuff. It's used f...

New dagger.... Here's one I finished up for Warren up in Canada...yes, I'm actually finishing stuff up now. The blade is 5160 and about 8" long. Through-tang peened over pommel. Hammer texture on gaurd and base of pommel. 600 grit satin finish. While peening the tang, I accidentally hammered the kni...
