metal buttons and pewter

I have some neat looking metal buttons. These were some my wife ordered. She could only find them in gross quantities, so we have a bit of a surplus. I'll probably start offering a larger assortment in the not too distant future. I also will begin offering pewter. I'm going to start casting bronze a...

If you use coal, you will have to deal with a lot of smoke...lots. And it starts off pea green! You would have to have an exhaust system with a capture hood and such to remove it. The propane forge will be my workhorse for patternwelded blades. The lack of carbon (and sulfur and several other items) is exactly the reason why I want it. It also drastically increases productivity.

Your armouring stainless is most probably 304 or 316 stainless. A 308, 316, 304 or 302 rod/wire will work. Try not to use 400 series rod/wire, it will be brittle compared to the rest of the piece.

Harold, I've been using coal for several years now, and will still do so for some projects. In fact, we've discussed coal fires before. Next time, before you jump on someone, do a little homework. P.S. What kind of blower do you use? I'm assuming it's a homebuilt double bellows, since a blower would...

I got the fine tuning done on my burners for my new forge. Each one can handle up to at least 40 psi with a stable neutral flame! I'll have the whole forge set up and running this weekend. The burners come out of the forge cylinder, so I could use them for heating sheet metal as well. I'll add pics ...

You're essentially buying the blower. Forge pans are easy and cheap to make. $10-20 will more than cover the materials. Crank blowers are nice if you have someone else to do the cranking! Check the tip of your bit for "hangers". Little bits of metal chips that wil stick to the end of your bit. I usually can drill a couple hundred holes in annealed 1/4" 1095 before the bit is trashed. Go slow and use a cutting fluid (thin oil or water). I use cobalt bits.

For 24 ga, I would punch like the above post mentioned, though.
