There's a lot of guys up in the D/FW area. Sir Timo makes some really nice stuff, Sir Duncan and Morgan own an entire armoury's worth of stuff that would be worth looking at. I go up to Dallas sometimes to burn some coal and beat some metal with my laurel as well. ------------------ Krag von Berghen...

Plott hounds, curs and walker hounds are the typical tracking dogs down here. They generally don't use the bull dogs or pit bulls if it's a trophy hunt since they actually go in and take the boar down. The others keep them at bay until the hunter shows up...give or take a nip here and there. The boa...

Leaf Springs 101....failed
It was a perfect night for forging. A cool front came through and cleared all the clouds out. A nice 65 F and a slight breeze. I fire up the forge, spend 15 minutes getting that perfect little fire, pull out the new hammer and get all the other hotworking tools handy. And what do I do.....? I spend ...

These were out of plowed fields in northern Germany. No other artifactrs of any importance were found with them. I'm looking up shapes and such trying to come up with a best guess. Due to the preservation quality, I would say no earlier than 14th when compared to some of my knife blades from the sam...

I really can't see the purpose in buying a Sweedish welder. I mean really, how would I tell him what to weld if I don't speak sweedish!? Not to mention the size of some of those guys! I couldn't afford to feed them, not to mention where would they sleep?! I think i'll stick to doing my own welds. --...

Do you have access to a forge? It makes a big difference on the socket construction. Leaf springs are good for these. You heat up the base, flatten and expand it out, then fold it around into a cone shape. I have pics of originals done like this as well. Also, you can upset the end (thicken it) and ...

Yep, that's the stuff. The uppermost plate could be shaped to whatever you needed. The articulation allows for nice bending movement. If you attached it to leathers, as opposed to hard riviting on the edges, it should do the "pillbug" thing for side motion and twisting as well as bending. ----------...

We had some bar stock we tried to machine and it ate up a few millbits! It was about as hard as regular type 316 stainless on the wire though. I never tried to heat treat it. I figured it was resistant to heat treating due to its applications. Drake, Inconel, monel, zircalloy, "xxxx"-alloy are all a...

Even 440 stainless will rust under the right conditions. A lot of people confuse rust resistant with rust proof. I had some inconel TIG welding rods I used to make some maille way back. It was surprisingly soft, but to this day (8 yrs) has not corroded. Probably not enough iron in it to form rust! A...
