Because I am forced to wear "kidney protection", I point my cuisses from a hip belt. You can't see the belt but you can see the point laces going up just under my Jupon. Looks pretty good. What I want to do next is aquire a mail skirt, or maybe I will just sew some mail to the bottom of my Jupon ala...

I would remind you that against the Armour Standard a hard tip shot would be very, very dangerous. Sword *tips* can shear rivetted mail in horrific ways. As far as helmet blows go- nearly any reasonable head blow would accomplish nothing. The amount of force needed to knock a man silly or bring the ...

Duke Ronald is, as usual, right on the money. His explanation above will explain alot about inter-kingdom and inter-school confusion etc. A light sword or even a cracked sword can make a big difference to those people who consider blows that hit them with more detail and subtlety. I don't think abou...

A chance for great renown and glory.
To all who labor at arms across the known world comes this missive from Vitus Von Atzinger, strenuous knight and student of all things noble and good. May God preserve all good vassals who read this letter, written this first day of August in the year of our Lord thirteen hundred and eighty nine. It...

1. Sarnac is right- spears or 6-10 feet were the most common weapon on medieval battlefields. 2. Highly trained shieldmen can cancel out any pocket of spear gods. 3. Froissart uses the terms "lance" and "spear" almost interchangably. It is impossible to tell whether there is a distinction or not. 4....

God bless you, Rev. You have hit the nail on the head. Did anyone notice what I was wearing on the field at the last Gulf Wars? I looked about as accurate as SCA fighters ever look. Now one of my retainers has my steel leg harness, because it fits her better. I was slower than many of my brother kni...

There was a time I was very, very strict about hiding modern items. I used to take the labels off of old wine bottles, fill the bottles with red Gatorade and put the corks back in! I covered all of my camp chairs with heraldic throw-cloths, and all of my armour was transported in painted wooden ches...

I just want to tell you guys how much the fighters of the Barony of the Flame love playing with you guys. The spearmen of Gleann Abhann never cease to amaze me- I had so much fun dueling with you guys at Border Raids. You had so many amazing-looking fighters in your ranks- it's always a pleasure to ...

The only thing I am really interested anymore is trying to stay in persona while on the field. Read Froissart, and learn about chivalric traditions and language. Start to search after that accurate knightly moment. The real Middle Ages are there for you after you get bored with the fun and silliness...

There is alot to what Raibeart is saying here. I am now pretty convinced that much more than any fighting technique- it's the flavor and tone of an event or passage that matters the most. Our huge time span limits our ability to do period-specific events, where *period-specific techniques and approp...

Your Highness of the Mists, may God and his angels guide your mighty and just hand to higher honors- It is said that the Order does not make knights, but that we only recognize them.
