Aluminum Shields

After using one for six months I have decided that I hate them! They vibrate and feel freaky-wierd. Back to wooden shields. Curses! Infinite curses!

I have a confession to make. Up until about three weeks ago I only fought about three times a month at best. Yes, from the time I returned to the SCA about four years ago until I was knighted I fought three times a month. Most of the time I was too tired to armour up- I was working at the bookstore ...

My allergies and injuries have always kept me from fighting at my full potential. Allergies? I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. Because this guy is going to gripe about anything that gives him *less* vision than he had before. Very competitive. I need a 14th century open-faced helmet that has no aventail.

Things I need.

I would put this on the Classified board but I want as many of the armourers as possible to see it. One of my retainers wants to go 14th century so he won't look like a sore thumb standing next to the rest of us. The guy currently wears a nice spangenhelm. I keep telling him that he is going to bitc...

Border Raids is in my backyard. It's popularity and importance comes and goes, based upon numerous factors. Kentucky is a haul if you are from Mississippi, and Kentucky is a haul if you are from Michigan. If a few fighters from the great Northern households show up, the Meridians are usually crushed...

Yes, the picture you speak of has two unarmoured men holding square bucklers and fighting with short-beaked pick-like things. War hammers? One pic does not really change the fact that the square shield is almost non-existant in the iconography of the High Middle Ages. -v I just checked the link post...

You don't play too rough- that's not really the problem. You express open contempt and hatred for your opponents. THAT is the problem. Hate doesn't make for very sound calibration awareness.

I just can't understand why being a bad little boy remains so appealing- even after the age of 25. Brother Alaric- The whole idea that we are searching for blows that "would have" been fatal or utterly disabling is screwy. Such a blow would almost always qualify as excessive force, because excessive force is what is required to kill a fully armoured man with medieval hand weapons. Anything less w...

If you have any low-level impingement in the shoulders (almost all SCA fighters do), the power snatch could injure you. I am a walking testament to this lift's amazing power, and it's potential destructiveness. Dilan is right- proceed with caution and reap the amazing benefits.

This is indeed a strange topic. Logan, I think the reason that this language has been adopted is because of this- when a particular fighter goes to fight in a tournament and he acts like an idiot, then weak-minded people will tend to think badly of his lady.
