Yawn. The point is that when we strike with a mock weapon, the blow is assumed to be either good or not sufficient, right? This idea that the blow would kill or incapacitate is pure assumption and guesswork- we cannot be sure. We are making assumptions about the effects of particular blows, while pr...

Gavin wrote- "In all seriousness, with certain of our "simulated weapons" I honestly believe our normal standards for what we accept as "good blows" are greater than required to violate actual armor and destroy the person within." But which weapons? "Violate" actual armour? What do you mean by this?...

I saw an archer from my local group, and he was on the side I was affiliated with. I had made a joke before the battle about how I would kill any archer who got close enough, so when he saw me he shot me straightaway. Hahahahahahahahahahah! He took me seriously, and I had to walk back to res point! ...

Vivat for Duke Ronald Wilmot.

Didn't anyone notice that Duke Ronald has retired his "rough from the hammer" business? Countless people wear armour that was initially shaped by Duke Ronald. There is a very good chance that the helmet you wear, or a helmet you own, had a top that came from him. He has done a hell of a lot of work ...

Noble squire Otto, you girded on sword in a good hour. May God and his angels lead you to a holy accolade. We reveal so much about what we think, and how we feel when we fight. "Judged as fatal or totally disabling" is a concept that has been retained to justify long-standing traditions- like falling down. It has also been retained so that we can appear to be considering the effects of particular weapons, in an attempt to look like we know what we are talking about. I neve...

Sarnac is right. I have said this a million times, the Armour Standard concept needs to be removed from the rules. A blow that would render you dead or incapacitated through a mail shirt and stiff gambeson is entirely too hard, rattan weapon or no. A telling blow is what is needed. No need to justif...
