I am given endless crap about my wearing chauses and braies by my oldest and closest SCA friends. They like the fact that I look accurate, but cannot resist a chance to bust my balls. Yikes.

Think about it this way: heat-treated spring steel armour weighs about the same as Kydex. Is Spring Steel gear "sport" armour?
Everyone asks that blatantly modern materials be covered or hidden- to not comply with this concept is a breach of courtesy.

You guys are just being mean- this person could be lurking here all the time.
I think that the only thing that we should be offended by is that there is a region where fighters hit each other in the hands on purpose- THAT is horror.

Aethelmarc is a wonderful Kingdom. The people are nice, the calibration is reasonable, the force-levels are reasonable. It's great to see an SCA kingdom that is sticking to it's roots, and refusing to drift into the "new game". I saw some pretty gear out there, too. Great fun, with a no-drama attitu...

Do not miss this opportunity, people. Cad's work is outrageously beautiful, mysteriously hard and dent-resistant, and with a bit of car wax has proven invunerable to rust.
Take advantage- the turn-around times are short and there is no flakey bullshit to deal with.

When you first encounter a group of fighters that make up a regular local practice, you have to remember that many of these guys never fight outside of that regular weekly practice. There are often long-standing rivalries and it's often emotionally inbred. They seem standoffish because a new fighter...

Last night I was helping a good friend put together his new leg-harness "system", and while we were roughshodding this BS together, I realized that I HATE armouring!! I despise it!! Medieval Knights considered Honour as a catch-all-phrase that described both their self-image and their reputation in the eyes of other "men of worth".
I have to admit, this is how I see it.

I doubt if Claude Blair has made much armour. You can be an absolute authority on what makes a piece of reproduction armour accurate/inaccurate in shape and function without ever having touched a hammer in your entire life. Sorry.

Since what we do could be easily tweaked to more closely resemble actual medieval Deeds of Arms on foot, then why shouldn't we try to get as close to that real, medieval place as possible? In the interests of safety, we all agree that a "tournament" is what we can most closely re-create. There were ...

Sometimes your armour saved you from injury, sometimes it didn't. Why do we keep searching for these Absolutes? They do not exist. The point of the longer weapon drifts faster and you can't do as many neat twisting shots. If you stick to the straight-ahead style, 12 feet is better than 9.
