Well, mainly my teacher, Rhya, squire-sister to Ulag who is squire to Baldar... I fought Ulag this weekend and had a throughly enjoyable experiance.. I also learned a few things from his style and choice of gear, things i hope to have incorperated by Gothic... I was a man-at-arms to Ryah back in th...

Duke Baldar of Trimaris and (sir?) Gaston from this archive are allowing me to use their grimms on the field until the 13th, so I am going to try to be finished by then. I think I am allowed to use it after that too, but they will need to be using it then, and I would like to be out of the way. Yea...

Maybe so but there is no ceiling fan in the studio to be inadvertently taken out (you know we've all done that at least once ) Hey that ceiling fan was a bit starttled but otherwise fine. My ceiling on the other hand always seems to have at least one "skid mark" on it somewhere.... Nothing wrong wi...

Why not try to wet the leather with the same or similar solvent as what is in your adhesive. Jim Hrisoulas uses acetone to wet leather for the sheaths he makes. Maybe you could wet the raw hide in acetone apply your adhesive and wrap the shield. Then the rate of evaporation would be similar if not ...

Oh, I forgot to mention the rawhide I have. It's not bright white like the chewtoys or stuff I've seen in Tandy. I got it from Sir Geoffery who works for Mid East Imports. They got a bunch of 65" diameter rawhides because someone wanted them for Taiko drums but then only brought a few. I got a good ...

I need some help. I'm exploring rawhide as a material for shields for SCA. First I want to use it for edging but after I get some experience I might try facing a whole shield with it. So I know how to shape it, but I also want to glue several layers together. Is there a way to do both at the same ti...

I truly believe that the release of the inner ape is the best thing you can do to be good. This doesn't mean lose control, but to unleash holy hell upon your victim in the best of possible circumstances. I want your f-n lunch money! If you are loking strictly in terms of usefulness and safety, I enjoyed using the Trimarian box style aluminum gauntlets. Alaric The originals were called "Morric Gauntlets" after their inventor. I'm glad to see you guys calling them something else since the real Morric gauntlets haven't been avail...

Of course it's staged, it's a film student's project. Just take it for what it is and lighten up. The video is kinda fun in a "kung fu theatre" style with the snarly looks followed by cut aways of armor bits going on and then the big clash. Not meant to be taken seriously, just to create visual inte...

Do this: Clamp the piece in a vice so it is nice and secure with the edge you want to roll accesible. I would use a couple pieces of thin wood in the vice so the teeth dont mar the alum. Take an old pair of piers and grind the teeth off them. heat the alum, with a common propane torch and use the p...

In any event I think it's safe to say that calling this injury "not uncommon" with no information other than what is in the news article is inappropriate. Those of us not there or party to a lot more facts have no basis commenting on the severity or whether it is unusual. My best wishes for a full r...

The one I had didn't last very long because one of the cutouts had a slight overcut that was a weak point and it tore. As long as the holes are round ones they seem to hold up well. The ones I've seen were cut from solid neoprene rubber sheet, 1.25" thick. As a good substitute, you might try Brian P...

You can aneal it, but then you will not likely be able to re-harden it and your hilt will be ruined. As Frederich said use a gentle radius edge and hit it with a hammer, working slowly. Make sure the edge you use is smooth and somwhat polished or you will end up adding unwanted texture to the outer ...

"serious but stable". In hospital speak that's more than a few stitches... I'm not sure the statement "This injury is not uncommon, I see head hits most training sessions I go to. Its part of the game, and a lot of people would frown upon the attention this is getting." really makes sense in light o...

Hey Markus
Sir Markus, you have a private message. Since it's been a few days I figured that, like many of us, you might rarely look at the little notice in the upper right corner of the page.

McMaster-Carr sells thick 100% wool felt in two different hardnessess used for padding and vibration dampenning of power tools. It might be a bit denser than what you need but it's the right kind of felt and comes in different thicknesses. Also, some saddle pads for horses are felt and it seems to b...
