I am very much in favor of allowing open hand push against arms, weapons, shields, etc. I think the added risk is miniscule. If you allow pushing the torso, I think the risk goes up a little more, but probably not that significantly. Allowing a hand on the elbow (used extensively in SCA combat in ye...

Like I said, I'm not saying don't hit the arm if it's offered, what I'm saying is don't make that the centerpiece of your skill-set. If you strike at the arm 5 times every fight people will eventually take umbrage. Not where I'm from they won't. They'll just try to protect the arm a lot better. G

Some good points and discussions about telling blows and what SCA fighting is and isn't BUT that should be a different thread. We shouldn't have to deconstruct the entire game to see that allowing halfswording WITHOUT pommel strikes or crosschecks is not a safety issue and is only illegal because of...

I did once have a very distinct experience of this. I was fighting pickups at a major war against another fighter and we were both king at the time. He didn't have any thigh armour as is common with his countrymen. I hit him in the thigh quite a bit but none of the blows were called so I kept amping...

The whole halfswording thing as written in the decision to allow it for experimental use in the SCA could have been done a lot better. OK, pommel strikes are a potential problem and safety issue, crosschecking should not be a valid blow (never defeat armour), but a lot of other halfswording should n...

Again I think Ulrich said it nicely. You owe it to your opponent to say something. On the other hand, it's their decision and you shouldn't argue with them if they want to take it.
