Foam is made from plastic. So no foam is allowed on polearms? Tape does decrease flexibility, but we allow it. Unfortunately our weapons rules are almost always stupid if you try to be too literal. I think common sense needs to be used, but then it's not always available. There used to be a rule tha...

At Gulf Wars the Meridians were also skeptical because it didn't have enough compression, but I haven't had any trouble in Trimaris. 1/2" of compression sounds good on paper, but what if you only have 1/2" of space between the striking surface and tha rattan? Obviously no material can compress to 0....

Baldar represents everything that is wrong with the SCA. This is the man who once entered a "crested helm" tourney with a plastic soap bottle duct taped to his helm and was pissed when he was turned away from the lists. This is the man who loudly claims to (and I quote) "enjoy making things for the...

One thing I was always impressed by was the fact that an unbelted, relative unknown could come, fight and win the Crown of the Kingdom, or so I thought. I was that squire. It wasn't THAT long ago. Odo deserves thanks for entering and winning the crown list he just refered to. He might not have been...

Re: what is SCA

Welcome The SCA is the "Society for Creative Anachronism", a 38+ year old organization which studies various aspects of the medieval period (as defined as "Pre-1600 European Society and those others who came into contact"). Basically it is one of (if not the) largest medieval reinactment groups in ...

Don't you just love the SCA? It is so much fun! It has a little bit for everybody to enjoy. Stick-fighting for some, bureaucracy for others, there's politics, history, cliques with infighting, shunning, fantastic displays of Chivalry, some of the best people around, some of the worst...etc. Yup, no...

I do think the number of top quality fighters produced is a good criteria for judging the "greatest teachers" Three of Baldar's former squires are dukes. One is a count. 14 (including the dukes and count) are knights. In addition to that, at least one other duke and 4 knights who were never his squi...

I find all this talk of a "mere touch" very silly. A thought experiement. Imagine you are poking at another man in the eye with a sword.
