Jeff and I discussed this briefly on the phone. He had the excellent idea of providing some linen bags at the gate, for people to stash things in that they wouldn't feel comfortable leaving at a coat check. Shhh... don't give away our secrets. Ya - some king might not feel comfortable leaving his c...

And for the crowd: lesser standards. I really like what someone posted earlier about segregating the on-lookers by class. Come dressed as a peasant, get corralled in the cheap section with the masses. Come dressed as a Baron, move to the platform for a comfy seat and a complementary glass of wine wh...

I think Murdock captures the spirit of the event: the fighters should be exemplars of the period, from skin out. Dressing skin out does make a difference, you move differently in linen & wool hosen and turnshoes than you do when you have modern components. More importantly, you Think differently whe...

On regalia. If it's not period to the 14th c., it doesn't come in. If somebody is lucky enough to have 14th c. regalia, bully for them. For crowns and other hats, part of the kit would have to be servants and other appropriate clothing. On unacceptable stuff. It might be nice to have a safe place o...

I was only wondering because it seems likely to me that wood is actually OVER represented these days, and that would be "low end" kit in a lot of cases. .pewter and/or potter being more likely for the station you guys seem to be shooting for. I've been using this as inspiration: What the Laurel says (What they really mean) 1. "What did you have in mind when you started this project?" (What the hell were you thinking!?) 2. "Your documentation is very concise." (Your documentation is retarded.) 3. "That's very... medieval." (Don't sell you...

You don't even need the bevel gauge. Take three pieces of scrap and put them together a triangle to use a a guide You can eyeball it, or maybe use a miter saw and cut scrap at an angle. I'm thinking you only need 6 to 8 degrees on legs like this. 2" is a bit thick... I'd offer to plane it for ya, bu...

They have red oak, sometimes Ramin or poplar (really probably tulip) Oak is reddish, with a spotty grain, Ramin has a slightly reddish hue with a finer, long grain. The tulip/poplar ones mught have a greenish cast.

That's pretty cool. Nice interpretation.

We have been using a fine finger-loop braided silk cord for ours.

One thing that you might want to consider is leaving a little bit of extra space on the string so the user can move them when doing the counting during aves.
