Two points I'll differ with most people on are the wood bowl & wood spoon. Those are for peasants or cooks. A pewter spoon is available from many places - like billy & charleys or or pewter replicas.

Don't try to curve 2 pieces & then stick them together. Instead, take 2 1/4" sheets, cut a little bit bigger than you want the shield to be. Spread glue evenly on one side of each, put them together and clamp them into the curved shape until the glue dries. Use a little bit more of a curve than you ...

Actually, for a less expensive spear, the MRL viking spear doesn't look too bad. Their lugged spear has gone way downhill though.

Most leather craft places carry something like a Circle Edge Slicker for $3-$5. You can search the tandy site for one:

http://www.tandyleather.com/search.asp

After finishing the leather, burnish it with the tool and then rub beesewax on the edge & it comes out smooth.

A lot of what people consider medieval "celtic" - isn't. A lot of what people consider irish or scottish was developed by the victorian english. Pennanular broaches among them. Those were borrowed from dark ages artifacts. For clothing info, and authentic patterns, go here: http://www.reconstructing...

These are the earliest surviving helms I've ever seen that would be classed as armets - cheekpieces hinged at the temples, meeting at a defined chin.

And don't buy it very heavy! Get a fairly thin weave, 'cuz when it shrinks, it's gonna get thicker too. Something you don't want unless you're going to wear them as winterhosen.

Ya, JZ & his period tools saved flonzy's big-top after a disaterous 2AM center-pole failure.

Also, Maso of Redco has a great armorer's polishing bench straight out of a period illustration that he takes to events. Steve Lund also goes to Redco events and works as a bowyer.
