Well, and I agree--with most of it. As far as archery being devoid of "blood, sweat and tears", though...no. It may be easier, but it isn't easy. And the amount of practice it takes to maintain a useful skill level is nearly the same. Remember, I am T-Bob's wife, and we once had a household of fight...

But they would be directing the archers, yes? Even supplying their own units? Actively recruiting archers? Protecting the units as a battle asset during combat? Aiding and abetting archery at every turn? And even kings did not themselves scorn the bow at need. It just wasn't a normal thing. War is n...

I don't think archery should disqualify them, no. A master of the Arts Martial is either acquainted with all the Arts or not. He should also study tactics and engineering. Being a hot two-stick and a really nice guy shouldn't be enough, and I don't think anyone could disagree with that (although I k...

Unfortunately, it isn't hard to find statements from even pro-archery peers that at least seem to discourage archery: "...being a heavy weapons fighter and being a combat archer are very separate paths in general and those that attempt to excel at many things excel at none." If this peer teaches his...

Does this mean you're in Kansas now, Toto?

X-chairs are hard, but popular. If you can get one at all, it will run about what a good arm-chair does. Footstools, storage chests, tables, kitchen boxes (boyscout style, not period but useful). Feast gear. Boxes, boxes, boxes.

But nobody cares what Trenchfoot of Albania thinks--only what the knights think. So if Trenchfoot hates archery (or florentine or roast beef), what difference does it make?

On the other hand, would you say Duke Logan's opinion counts rather more?

I'd like to see a properly managed archery unit, with both long-range and short range ammunition, training, moving and firing as a unit. I won't, though. This is why: 1. Regular heavy fighters can't be recruited in enough numbers because so many members of the chivalry are vociferously opposed to th...

I'd rather have snow and be warmer. We just bought a used snow-thrower from an ex-fellow employee of mine.

That second shot was lighter at home. You could even see the woodgrain.

Possibly becasue the hard-hitters like having that advantage and the finesse fighters like having a sense of superior skill? Setting a calibration standard could be taken as saying to anyone who doesn't already comply "You fight wrong". I'm sure some of the older fighters would just loooove that.

You do tend to raise a sword before hitting someone with it. Not a particularly good sign of surrender. Same for raising your arms. Maybe dropping your sword? But falling down is absolutely unmistakeable.

Heairn: I do NOT know if there is something I missed. I will throw until my opponent is ON THE GROUND, headed there, or I hear "good" or "hold." Odds are, however, especially in my helm, I won't hear you call it.. so you better fall over dead or be VERY loud. (pet peeve of mine is the fighter who ca...
