Thank you, Lothar. Someone want to forward that to the Middle Royals? In large red letters maybe? This is exactly the sort of thing T-Bob (and I) have been trying to get across to our local groups for twenty years, only to be told "You don't know what you're talking about, it would never work." Well...

I wonder if the East has more military personnel than the Mid? I know that, especially since the last round of base closings, the East and the the Southern Kingdom areas have more active bases. I think that may be one reason we have so much trouble developing a "tactics" culture. The pulling of our ...

wilmot--that's cute. If I read Sarnac's post right, it wasn't just the rhino issue. He objected that the training for the champion's units took people who should have been training to lead their own units off the board while they rehearse for this one fight. Thus, unit tactics on the field suffered....

Phillippe: I can testify to the fact that a local knight instructed his household to step on and break arrows at at least one Pennsic. He actually taught his people how to target a bow to break it and make it look accidental. Not all the people doing this were chivalry, I just know this knight did t...

Now, to get back to the conversation... Is it possible there will be more such cases? Perhaps. I think it depends on the following: Do others feel the same way? (I think so, but perhaps I'm wrong?) Can others be persuaded to feel this way? (Oh, that's almost always a yes.) Would these others feel an...

Well, merely to explain my interpretation and not to bash: The statement, made after the fact, seemed to me (in one of T-Bob's phrases) to lack a knight's humility. Of course, this would not have been congruous with the character Hugh Knight has shown here anyway--his ideas are perhaps too strong to...

Perhaps you'd care to re-read my posts in this thread? Post 1. And that is why Sarnac made my list of "good knights"--he actually considers the rank-and-file fighter. Post 2. My comment was not meant to refer to anyone but Sarnac. I wasn't on the field and have no idea what Valhalric did or din't co...

In re. Wilmot: Sir: I understand your personal involvement, but you are perhaps missing the point just a little. While Rhys is the current example, we are not so much discussing him as the case at hand. AN individual, Rhys or not, committed a certain act and was reprimanded in a certain way. Questio...

It is possible I confuse Rhys' bluster with his avowed intentions--they are often hard sort out. That it was Rhys who did this was the biggest shock since B.I.G was accused of the murder of 2pac--What, the guy should be accused of actually doing the sort of thing he built a career talking about? And...

everyone can go fight in the larger battles, where these various ways of looking at the game can float more freely in the soup. All right. But consider that soup for a moment. Same schools. More targets, meaning more opportunities. Lots more confusion, meaning less of a chance of getting called on s...

And I repeat, if it was the king's will, a knight in period would have accepted the presence of the archers and even fought to protect them. A knight would not have committed such an offense against the crown. No matter how the archer's presence bothered him. And saying you approve only encourages t...

Our Duke likes archery and seige engines. Our Duke will have them: Not because he ordered it, but because he cares for his folk and they, in return, do what they can to make him happy. And when we're in the field, we will obey the rules, because the Duke wants us to be honorable. And when we're in t...

I don't know what the answer would be, but I would not deny these heavy-hitters the chance to test themselves agains each other. After all, if these are our best and we expect them to fight with the populace in general, they're probably going to have to rein themselves in a bit, yes? Wouldn't it be ...
