Called for or not, I worry about it. Most archers or archery engineers are lighter armored that heavy fighters. What happens when the heavy, his jesting scorn egged into a temporary but real hatred, forgets that little fact? And, please, don't tell me it doesn't happen. I've been watching heavies fo...

A--actually, I was mostly serious. The point of medieval warfare was to hurt the other guy real bad. If we start hurting the other guy real bad, won't that cause us legal problems?

As for my concerns: Let's just say for the sake of argument that, as many of you attest, Rhys is sincerely sorry and won't do it again. Fine. What about the thirty or forty other Rhyses out there who are laughing at this same story and promising themselves to try the very same thing first chance the...

"SCA wars are not meant to recreate or simulate *anything*. They are a modern invention (based loosely on medieval tourney and warfare) intended on being a fun diversion for SCA members."

That, I think, is the best point made in this entire thread.

My comment was not meant to refer to anyone but Sarnac. I wasn't on the field and have no idea what Valhalric did or din't consider. I know he made a lot of common fighters' war by bestowing the Dragon's Teeth on certain households. Being worthy of rank, in my mind, is indivisible from the proper ca...

You'll forgive me if, given my experience with Syr Rhys and his ilk, I do doubt his definition of sincerity. I may accept that he regrets causing such a fuss. I am not convinced that he wouldn't like to have gotten away with it--i.e., he's sorry he got caught.

It might also be worth mentioning that (if I understand medieval law) the King is the final arbiter in all matters. In fact, it was sometimes said that the King was the Law. Therefore, nothing the King ordered could be a crime. Also, I believe it was usually considered a crime for one noble to destr...

The apology is only good if he never does it again. He still encouraged others to do the same. If I had been that king, I would have banished him for the duration of my reign, and then apologised. It comes down to one opinionated s.o.b. insisting on enforcing his definition of the game on the rest o...

Cotton works easily, though it does shrink. Wash in warm a few times before cutting, especially as there are different qualities of cotton. Some of them at least look like linen, but they wrinkle a lot more. Do not use polyester thread. Do not wash in hot water ever, as cotton will shrink to some de...

We have two we got some time back and crushed accidentally. They'd probably work just fine if we could re-wax them (Plus we now have four horn cup that could use a little wax, but that's another topic). Anyway, leather bottles have to be treated rather carefully.
