Don't go with the short. I have one attached to my wife'e bascinet and it is fine for a small person from the BOTTOM of a helmet but to come from the crown would be too short.

In my not-so-humble-opinion: Dorf on Fighting in dumb. I do it because it is the way our system is set up. I prefer counted blows. If you must "act out wounds" ask the Marshal and your opponant if they are OK with simply planting your feet if struck in the leg and not crawling around in the dirt. so...
