Is SCA fighting a form of Western Martial Arts? No, for several of the reasons that welder put forth. Also it is because of the purpose of SCA, which is to win the tournament. It is not an established system of self defence. Now if you were being attacked in a dark alley and had a club handy could ...

If you have finger gauntlets on the way, don't bother with getting use to a different system. You will only need to re-re-learn when they come in. I found that, when I switched from baskets to finger gauntlets and cross hilt, that I needed a longer sword... I don't know why. I have the dexterity to ...

I’m not so interested in bending the rattan as I want to straighten some out. When you shape it to the jig (in my case, I plan to use a piece of L-channel steel) how long should I plan to leave the stick in the jig? How much memory does rattan have, will it eventually want to go back to its n...

I have two, one is 54in with 18 in handle it is fast and light, it works well against other two handers (>6ft) but isn't too good for me vs. weapon and shield. The other is 67in with an 18in handle and a 7in riccaso to give me grip greater than 24in, in Trimaris, which allows me to have a butt-spike...

That looks like a hoot! I really enjoy playing with folks who understand that it's ok to make contact with your opponent and just because you are bumping into each other (with elbows and shoulders and such) you aren’t grappling. There is a brutal grace that is evident in your pictures and can...

I'm so "in". I've been toying with the idea of making a @48-54in maul and now I'm sold. I think that might be a bit long but not too much so, and it'll keep it in line with my short two handed sword and axe. edit to add: The action pics are great, how on earth did you recover from the elbow hook in ...

brute force and ignorance solve all problems in the long run of things! AND BEER don't for get the beer. I'd get a 12pack, a piece of rebar to use as a drift and a BFH. If that doesn't work call a friend to come over and help, don't forget to tell hin to stop off and get another 12 pack! By this ti...

Dalewyn, Wolf, all, No worries, It's just that I know some folks who do and have used metal in heads of weapons. I have seen every thing from wire used as big tieoffs fixing to the haft to lead tape for weight in the head to a trailer hitch in a mace (not the soft rubber hitch cover, THE BALL ITSELF...

I like those from CelticWarriors...you had no concerns about not having an enclosed thumb? Is there padding between the metal and the glove? Mine are basically the same thing without the bell cuff. I custom ordered them incomplete so I could attach my own leather cuff to them. I also had to add pad...

Here is something else to be aware of, if you have a second weapon, even sheathed, and you loose youe polearm, you are still armed and your opponand is not abliged to stop the press. I am a fan of this rule as I have never liked the,"oops I droped my sword... RESET" kind of fights but it can be a sh...
