Fiore was writing for a particular crowd and in a time of significant violence. His work is an artful treatise and should be respected and not judged for the "kick-in-the-jewels" play. But it IS funny... YES BUT... this only goes to show that Gustov von Shnicktengruben is the true master of The Nob...

I'm with D. on this one, if Odo lays his glave across my collar bone with a marginal shot, and I ***KNOW*** he could have tent staked me but chose not to, I will answer with 'thank you' and retire the field. First off, NICE HELM! ok, now that that is out of the way: Pad the helm well. Make the padding fit his head, not just so he can jam it on and have it stay in place. If the helm is padded to fit, all the strap will need to do is keep the helm on and from bouncing around. I use a U.S> army helmet chin...

OK. Other than the big plate at the end of the finger tips, these look like many other finger gauntlets. Why do these protect better, is there special padding or rivitted articulation or something? And yes, what do they cost? Having held a few other pairs of finger gauntlets, these seem to have won...

What are you currently wearing on your hands? How does your shield an...

Jess, seriously, talking down to frieman like he's some sort of chauvinist troglodyte is completely unwarranted. I think this is an important discussion. Irish, Cool, you made a good call. I can respect your right to not like the unpadded pole arms. I really don't like the power needed to get people to call the MUSH of the padded heads. Just so you know, I made a padded bill hook so I can fight with it for a while to better understend the mechanics o...

Uuic, That's easy, if it hit you it wasn't a spear shaft. You can't strike with a spear. Does not make any less the fact that I have been hit by the haft of a spear. How did you know it was haft? Did you keep fighting? For what it's worth "me to" but so what it didn't count, he yelled "HAFT" and we...

Master Jamies heads should be allowed without further padding if unpadded sticks are legal.

You are correct. Just remember, if you push hard enough, they have 1/2in of give.

Honor dictates that I tell my opponent if and when I hit with the haft or flat, I hope to receive the same courtesy. My poles all have lugs and hooks (and some have shaved hafts) I know when I hit bad. I'll tell you.

Logan, I agree. But lets say you knock my 300 lb frame over in a melee and I land on someone who is 100lb +/- .The chance of my hurting them by landing on them is greater than if I were to land on another 300 lb person. I also hit them the same, I just accept that they are at greater risk in melee o...

unpadded pole arms don't hurt people, people hurt people.

I think the mass of a padded pole arm is more likely to hurt someone than a long stick.

LWCM,
No, I was not, I wanted to make some knuckle bucklers after I got the gauntlets as "marshalizers" but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I still think they are a good idea to have in the bag if I get grief about fighting without them but I don't think they are unsafe without them.

Re: Half-Swording

Does your Kingdom use it? Yes. What is your feelings on it? I love it. It allows us to use the weapon in a maner closer to the way it was intended. There is no reason to not allow it, it is just as safe as useing a short polearm. The only thing you have to get past is the fact that there is tape on...
