This would normally be the duty and honor of the Queen's Champion, an official court position in Caid. The Queen is the Inspiration for the Kingdom. While one may not presume her favor, she may have as many champions as she chooses. No one, not even the King, may gainsay her in this. Respectfully, ...

Do without. The path you lay out in the first paragraph is a sure way to heartbreak, hatred, ill feelings, warfare, and hell. No, no, no, no, no, no..... Though my respect for the good baron and my lord Vitus runs deep, I disagree most strenously with the singular assumption that one's inspiration ...

What brewer's pitch are you using? I only ever bought the thermal plastic, and while I found it to be unfortunately brittle, I would have never called it "sticky".
With curiousity... AoC

Re: Residency requirement
I think you are making the assumption that the Crown list is the best tournament for testing ones skills against any particular kingdom’s people. Some Kingdoms do not expect all their fighters to enter... That would be sad if it is true. The romantic ideal requires that the winner of Crown Tourna...

it is my understanding that the bod can be removed if all of the crown heads petition for such an action. True, a petition of impeachment signed by a majority of the current Crowns or Kingdom Seneschals will force the Board to consider removing the named director. The actual removal, however, is st...

Not tottaly true. The seneschal is a legal representative of the corporation for contract matters. There is some valid reasoning behind requiring them to me members as well as exchequers. ... if the rule states you must do X or Y will happen then it is what it is. they failed to do X so Y did happen. that, to me, is fair. fair in that the requirement is well known and the punishment is also. I was speaking with Sir Andrew Greencloak this weekend about the situation, and from what he was saying, it has been posed to SOMEONE in the Midrealm that the Kingdom should pay for Royal Memberships back when he was active (aka like the 80's) so this is not really new, though the situation may be....

This is not directed at Logan; his words merely provided the catalyst for the following editorial... the bod did what it had to in the midrealm case and i will not argue that as it is just and fair. It is easy to be trapped by the idea that something is fair or just simply because a rule was applied...

I'm not at all interested in (grappling) and would really not like to see it shoved into the SCA's general fighting. I empathize with you, Dan, but ... The SCA's arch-conservative definition of grappling encompasses all body-on-body and shield-on-body contact. And while I agree that joint locks and...

Being able to grab arms would be nice. It doesn't even have to be a grab. Binding with pressure from an open hand, closed fist, or even forearm-against-forearm would expand the repertoire significantly without begging the question of breaking locks or forceful counters. As a two-sword fighter, I've...

This is not an art for armored combat. There is nothing historically that backs it as a good idea. I realize we have images of it being done, but even in the sagas it was done until submission or death. There is a historical precedent; the images you cite prove that. All armored combat was ostensib...

I'm definitely going to need video/visual aids; I just don't get what you're saying. The blow I'm describing can't (easily) be thrown as a follow-up to an off-side, if only because the power train requires the shield hip to drive it (palm up is already a weak linkage; relying only on the upper eleme...

Fascinating. I'm a little too busy with work to follow up on this at the moment, but I'm keen to try it for myself. The recovery tends to be one more offside - head, body or leg. That's something I can't visualize. If your shield hip is forward and your hand is lower than the tip, how can you follow this with a second off-side strike? i suspect there's an intervening action I'm not aware of (such as pulling the ...
