Like Jeff said, if someone comes to the table with commitment and drive, no reenactor I know would care in the slightest if they have inauthentic physical needs. What do you think, though, of the example of somebody on oxygen, and a tube in their nose that they can't cover? Or somebody unwilling or...

--I dont support the idea but you do realise there there are groups that forbid women serving in male roles (ie no women in combat or on the field) right? Halv This one is very group by group. Personally , I think if a woman can hide the fact that she's a woman, she should be able to do it. If you ...

Fat white samurai! YES!

For the record, when Jeff and I were in Codnor last fall (as in Lord Grey of Codnor) there was a shop selling samurai swords. We have documentation!! :D

To achive "the right look" would you exclude persons of ethnicites that did not have contact with the people in your time of study from participating in your events? A person can take off their glasses to be "more period" but they cannot change their skin color or look European if they are not Euro...

People in the SCA wouldn't like it so much if Living History people started bashing how they play, saying that they shouldn't use rattan, that their tents all suck, and they should change the rules. How much do you think a LH person likes it when a SCAdian who has never been to see a reenactment wou...

Would a person in a wheel chair be allowed to fight heavy? Actually, there WAS a guy in the SCA who used to fight in a wheelchair (I haven't seen him in a while, but that could just be that I don't spend the time out on the battlefield that I used to). There is also a knight in the SCA with only on...

The tattoo would have to be covered. If somebody was unwilling to cover their tattoo or remove their 15 facial piercings, they couldn't play. Re: Most blatant anachronism

I am not in a group that is normally exposed to more MR or Renfaire style of dress. So I don't see the Celtic Jewelry or the bodices or moccasins, etc... Every group has different standards... In light of that, all of the examples I've listed above are things that I've seen at a timeline LH event. ...

I often think of jell-o, where the slightest movement on the part of the wearer will result in wave upon wave of trembling quivers... It only helps them on their way, of the inevitable creeping over the bodice line, until they're hanging, limp, barely held up by the muslin chemise. Eh, some guys pro...

I'd hate to say this, but I don't have to reenact a near-sighted person--I am a near sighted person, and the next time I go to the eye-doctor, it's probably time for bi-focals. There are other eye alments--astigmetism (sp), for instance. And what do you do with the person who wants to shoot archery...

Sunglasses are the absolute worse. Glasses are bad, but it all depends on what you're doing. If you're at an SCA event, who cares. If you're reenacting, then reenact an impression of a nearsighted person. Period problems need period solutions. Problem - I can't see. Solution - don't shoot archery.

A chat with an art historian I bumped into at the National Gallery in London last fall confirmed one of my suspicions about 15th century English art. Orthotics? I have started to look into those, but they are damned expensive and my insurance won't cover it.
