Well spotted, most of the maille was riveted aluminum with a grey colour developed and supplied by GDFB, (blatent plug), for the movie. Nice to get something right. I have not yet seen the movie but hope to soon. SB GDFB ------------ Apparently Stephen's word isn't good enough as the experts on thi...

Re: Northshield Crown - Congrats to an Archiver!
Dang, doesn't take long for word to get around. I estimate that post was made about a minute after the tournament wa over -- maybe even before I realized who won (the first thought I had after Sir Lars said, "That's good" was "Thank God, now he's going to stop trying to hit me".) That would be Shav...

I concur, but I have to say, it didn't really bother me. I'm very much with you. I have ablsolutely no problem with butted mail in a movie, because most losers will either wear the cloth waffle-weave stuff or have something so outrageously fantasy or OOP that it destroys any semblance of the mood. ...

My rule -- about which I admit to preaching here, and do not mean to forcibly apply it to you, though I hope I can convince you to agree -- is Do not make the rare common and the common rare . And it seems as if this frog thing violates this rule. I agree.... Though, in the case of the SCA, the gro...

I just saw the movie this evening and I would dare say you are wrong. I looked for rivets and did not spot a one. As far as I could tell all the mail was butted. All the publicity stills I have seen agree with that last statement. I concur, but I have to say, it didn't really bother me. It's still ...

OTOH there are those in the SCA who refuse to have a device as it would not be appropriate to their personna. It is actually possible to become a peer with no registered device or name. Thomas I'm in the middle of this discussion elsewhere, right now... Then there's those of us who aren't refusing,...

I dont know, I thought that Princess Isabelle in Braveheart and Princess Katherine in Henry V were pretty good, attire wise. But then again, what do I know. Wish I could comment. I haven't seen that movie in at least 5 years, and I wouldn't have known any better back then. Ed Norton baby! He can su...

I really wish, though, that moderation would be kept to an absolute minimum. If something blatantly is off topic, or doesn't belong, sure, move it. If it's on the edge, and you think it might get more notice elsewhere, just leave it. That's for the poster to decide, and ask the moderator to do. Disc...

I know this isn't along your line of thinking, but a turban like headwrap/veil was worn by European women in the 14th and 15th centuries. Often times it was worn by lower classes, or women working. The shape and size varied. The coolest turban you can get will be plain whilte linen. Silk is an insul...

Charlotte- I concur that these gowns seem to have been almost universally fur-lined to some extent, (there are some lovely pictures of lady's holding up their hem to show fur lining on their skirts) and the robust fullness of the pleats should be achievable that way- though I have yet to make a fur...

Jeff's gown has no visible closures, but is actually laced up the front with hidden rings. I could have done this better, but it was my first try with hidden rings. I'm certain after making many of these it'd look much better: http://www.mathildegirlgenius.com/Pictures/TwelfthNightCloseup.jpg In thi...

So, WHO do we write to? We currently have a local issue that's been getting a lot of air time on our list, and it may be a good time to spread such info around here, get a letter writing deal going, etc... I think I just heard about it. Yes, I've been (again) making a spectacle of myself around her...

This proposal is still being reviewed, guys, which means that you can provide input that might be incorporated. Personally I'd sign on the dotted line as it stands. It's worlds away better than outright forbidden which is what I have lived with for much of the past two years. Folks in An Tir, Anste...

Yep, the week after Hastings/Columbus Day/Kingdom Crusades. I suspect that most Grey's folks will be attending Hastings as Normans, or some of us crossover SCAdians will be going up to Crusades. I haven't heard anybody who is specifically planning on attending Hastings as WOTR. I don't anticipate it...

I do wonder why it is we are urged to rely upon period sources, but then told that they are wrong. All too often it seems that sources are credited or discredited based on something other than their authenticity. Gavin Every source needs to be examined for its merit not just whether or not it is au...
