I've never been to keen on most of the photoshop filters. They're fun to play with, but as far as making something permanant, they don't do much for me. What I *do* like to do is pull down the saturation of color. I think the difference between these two pictures is stunning (cropping aside). And so...

thank you for your quick reply. I have reference to knee length boots (civilian) worn during the reign of henry VI (reference quotes 1422-1461 for those boots) but mostly ankle boots of soft leather. I also have a reference to boots with deep turned down cuffs (1413-1422) that sit at mid calf. ther...

That is where most of the reenactors come from, true, but for a new group starting out, I don't think it's in their best interest to exclude half of their potential population. Yes, I know most reenactments are geared towards military, and thus, towards men, but we wanna play too! Actually, I was st...

You wear braies, which are your underwear, length of which determined by time period. For you, they'd be about the length of boxer shorts. Then over that, your hose, or chausses. Nope, no pants. Your top garments at that time were still long enough to cover the boys. Mid calf boots? I'm not a pro at...

So what can I wear that's even remotely close in wonderfulness?
Or am I SOL?
Cheers!
All wool? Does it matter how it's finished? I actually have some wool that is very silky to the touch.
Silk is fun too, but doesn't have nearly the same properties of wool.

There's wool, and then there's wool. It all depends on the weight, weave, and I think, on color. When you're standing in the sun, color matters a lot! Way back when, when I first started doing this, I made myself a wool cloak. Actually, I think I made my cloak before I even went to an event. Anyway,...

I was bummed about not meeting Charlotte, also. I guess she didnt _REALLY_ wanna find out what happens when she, Kass, and I all get in the same room. I figure what really will happen won't be nearly as interesting as the way I imagine it! We had a bout of real life (house isn't ready to go on the ...

I think a lot of modern guys don't want to wear this sort of clothing. These garments are so counter to the modern man's idea of masculine attire. Yeah, my husbert won't "go there" either. Can't say I blame Gerry either. -Tasha Oooh, I'll bet Jeff'd do it! He runs around in those poncey 15th centur...

Re: Off-the-shoulder
Hi Charlotte, Well, I admit - I have to take the gown back and do some adjustments. Actually - the shoulders dropped too far. They were supposed to end up just on the edge I have to remove the sleeves and trim a bit off the bodice - and I also need to tighten the sleeves a bit. Once the top of the ...

Wow Tasha - those look great! I wish I could have seen them in person. Quick question - the off-the-shouder bit on the gown... How did that work with arm movement? I've been wanting to try off the shoulder, but it wouldn't work with the way I do arms, and I'm afraid I couldn't raise my arms past my ...

Where does your main interest lie? Armour or textiles or daily life (or something else)? For me, the Museum of London was the highlight. Then again, it's the last thing we saw before I got sick. As a textile geek, I highly lament the fact that I missed the V&A. The Tower of London is very cool. If y...

I toyed with the idea of being Manx for a bit, but then moved away, as it seemed to me that a lot of the info was just generi-irish or generi-viking. The Irish people in our group tried to get me to hook up with them, and I was feeling pushed towards an earlier period. I wanted to do 14th c. Manx......

Bring your water on site with you. Hide the jugs with other farb stuff if you're bringing coolers, etc. We hid our plastic deer park water jug in a chest under some wool at MTA. Bring pitchers, period jugs, or better yet, a barrel with spigot or dipper to fill with water from your plastic jugs, so y...

Publishing and "sharing" aren't always the same things. If you do a lot of work, spend a lot of money, and write a book, by all means, you should publish is, and make money on your book. "Sharing" implies that you're giving away the fruits of your labor for free. Even when people work on their disse...
