Re: Unusual bascinet

You think you could get them to do it like this? I'd think it would even be cheaper. Definately less forming to do. And more in line with what we've seen in illustrations. How did you get it looking like that? Did you Photoshop it somehow? I agree, it would look much better like that. Yes, I am a P...

Might be easier for people if you delete the SOLD items instead of just putting sold behind them.

Also, I asked for better pictures of the titanium Bishops mantle. And it's not Riveted, it's welded correct?

Re: Using the Icefalcon riveted mail tool

I saw these last night. The pliers only have one hole in one side. They seem to be plenty long. The rivets are the small domed pin style, not wedge. When assembled and in the pliers the rivets fold over and break the ring or make a messy loose "peen". BTW, these are stainless rings/rivets. I agree w...

Re: Anyone fight in a Burgonet?

A guy could make a burgonet based on a period example every week for the rest of his life, and never make the same helmet twice. Oh yes, I agree 100% which is why I tried to limit my "criteria" to only 3 items. There were so many variations and "options" on Burgs that just saying one style was a bu...

Re: Anyone fight in a Burgonet?

....If there is a more "typical" form for the burgonet during my period I haven't encountered it. Part of the reason you haven't found a "typical" form is that really there is none. Much like the Greathelm, the Burg evolved in many different forms almost at the same time. The 3 basic or Key Feature...

Re: Anyone fight in a Burgonet?

Just curious here. But, what is your chosen timeframe? The helms are you picturing are pretty late in the SCA timeframe. They are closer to a Savoyard or "Death's head" burgeonet type. More so than the conventional burg type. Here is what I did for my helm so that I could fight cut and thrust with i...

From Andrixos at Calontir Trim about his Lamallar Plates

Re: Conquistador/16th Century Spanish Helmet Question

The rest of the outfit is going to be pretty simplistic. I'm going with a plain, long sleeve, solid-colored shirt, maybe a loose, long, sleeveless doublet over top of that. Beneath the waist I'm planning on a pair of knee breeches with knee high boots, which, if you're trekking through country fill...

Re: Anyone fight in a Burgonet?

I'm looking at pretty modest dimensions. The comb is an absolute necessity imo (hardly qualifies as a burgonet without it) but I am planning to keep it small for practicality. Likewise with the visor. The large comb is a Post 1550 thing. So if you are going earlier, your burg would not have the hig...

I definately helps reduce spear shots catching on the brim. I suggest having the helm made to YOUR HEAD. complete w...

Re: Conquistador/16th Century Spanish Helmet Question

1. Don't get that hat you linked too. It sucks. I have one, it is to shallow to even fit correctly. Not worth the money. I'm assuming you are looking for a dress helm and not an SCA fighting helm correct? For early 16th century you could look at a low/no comb burgeonet, Cabesset, open faced sallet, ...

Re: critique my Kit

nice looking rig man. I like the leather trim on the lamallar. There are 2 things that jump out at me as being "off". 1. The Boots seem to be more SCA and less period. I would think that winnigas and ankle boots would be more period correct. 2. The sword belt. That type of belt, with the 2 loops hol...

I bought this from someone who used to partake in SCA. I am not sure of the maker. He told me that this is a common design and that the maker replicated the pattern from a pattern he found online. I recently bought a 8'x4 sheet of 12ga. steel for welding purposes (for my personal art). This is 12ga...
