Re: WTB: BEST, SAFEST HELM padding system known

http://aiden-groundpounder.smugmug.com/photos/1019429794_VnrQA-XL.jpg This is how I pad my helms. I use the black EVA foam from Windrose. First make the shell as pictured above to fit your head. Then pad out the shell to fit your helmet. Add/remove the outer padding to adjust fit inside the helm. O...

Re: Trigger/no trigger?

I tore all my gripping tendons in each forearm when I was 20. I started fighting at 21 (for VERY short periods). I've always used a lanyard but find them to be cumbersome sometimes. Would a trigger help with grip strain? Note: I tend to use large grips as I cannot close my hand past 3/4 closed with...

Re: Casewell Silver Plating Kit

I suspect that plating works just like painting. If you start with a rough surface, you will end up with a rough surface after painting.
So, if you used those pieces and platted them as is, the finish after plating will probably be the same as before, only it should be silver.

Re: Why are Pavise's shaped like they are?

If you are speaking about the big free standing ones then I contend the central channel provides 2 things. 1. it allows the prop stake a place to sit. 2. It allows an archer the ability to get closer to the shield when they have their bow drawn, thus letting the shield cover them more from the flanks.

Re: [SCA] Rules on swords with two thrusting tips

I researched the issue of "butt spikes" or any form of crushing/slashing/piercing device on the grip end of two handed swords when I was KEM for Drachenwald and the Kingdom was to take a decision on this. I found a multitude of different options from a large geographical range within Europe and can...

Re: [SCA] Rules on swords with two thrusting tips

By convention in the East, pommel strikes from a great sword are only effective when hitting the face using the boundaries outlined for a face thrust. Kenric rex I apologized. I should have clarified. :) When I was referring to "SCA" I was talking specifically about the Society(tm) combat conventio...

Re: [SCA] Rules on swords with two thrusting tips

I have a "thrusting tip" on my greatsword. I don't consider it a buttspike, though. It's not a spike at all, which I agree would be unperiod. It is a pommel. Lots of period manuals have pommel strikes in them. I definitely only consider it good to unarmored areas, as it's not a sharp pointy thing, ...

Buttspikes on Greatswords is legal, depending on what kingdom you are in. Calontir does NOT allow them on Greatswords.

On a personal note, I find them ugly and pretty non period for anything other than a Judicial Combat weapon.
