Re: Lamellar Embellishments.
I've had enough of cord and string. The plates I received had very very small holes, my paracord was too large in diameter. The second was perfect but turned out to be crap and pulled apart easily. Now I have what they call "rat tail" lace. Wish me luck. If it was paracord that was to thick, try re...

Re: Lamellar Embellishments.
Here is a quick diagram of the 2 styles.
On both styles you lace rows across, then lace the rows vertically, adding the trim/layer into the lace pattern.

Re: padded quisses in mid 15th century?
What type of support does a leg brace offer that can not be provided by a well fitted full plate leg harness? I am not trying to be argumentative here I just have zero experience with leg braces. With my late 15th century leg harness I am fully protected from side loads & hyper extension. If the le...

Re: padded quisses in mid 15th century?
Yeah, I'm beginning to think that a longer top coat with padded quisses and simple knee cops may be the best option. Not exactly the silhouette I was looking for, but Might be my best option.

Re: Shield cover
What you are suggesting will work. Just make the cover the same shape as the shield (just a bit bigger, lik 2" all around bigger). Over all the shield will have a slightly wavy look as the canvas is not glued to the shield. But, it should work fine. Thanks, that's what I was thinking about doing, b...

Re: Shield cover
Greetings, I have what might be an slightly obvious question, but here goes. I had the honor of winning our coronet tourney last month, so I effectivly have no personal arms for the next six months. My problem is my shield. My personal device is painted on canvas glued to the face of my shield, and...

padded quisses in mid 15th century?
So, I'm tossing around some ideas for a 15th century rig. Problem is that I can't wear plate legs. 2 ACL surgeries mean I will be wearing leg braces from here on out. I've been looking around and can't seem to find any evidence of padded quisses or "baggier" pants for mid 15th century. Anyone have a...

Re: Lamellar Embellishments.
In the photo I posted the red striping is accomplished by using red suede cut into roughly 2" wide strips, the same length as a horizontal row of lamallar. Then laid out, holes punched, and laced in between the 2 rows. The bottom of the red suede peeks out from under the top layer of lamallar. The s...

Re: Lamellar Pattern Questions
Personally I think slim tombstone shaped, (2.5"x4") or rounded cornered rectangle (2.5"x4") look the best for leather lamallar. Wide tombstone shapes always look off and make the suit look clunky. Really slim shapes make for way to much overlap on the rows. For unhardened or hardened lamallar plates...

Of all the examples shown this one: http://imageshack.us/a/img82/6192/lamellarleatherarmourof0.jpg Is the closest to period examples I have been able to find. Re: Fighters Fighting at an Unofficial Practice (no Marshal)
The marshal must be warranted not just authorized. As I said, it is a IKA thing. In the Outlands we use roster warrants, and any authorized marshall is added to the roster. I believe the Warranted rule is society wide. An authorized marshal (probably named different things in different kingdoms) is...

Well, if you add a full drape it could pass for a St.Wenceslas conical. roughly 930's AD.

IF a backyard practice had their own insurance, would it be OK to host a fencing practice that is not SCA, but contains SCA members? Private gatherings don't need insurance. As long as the practice is not advertised over official communications lines and the SCA insurance policy is not used to gain...

NOPE. Only difference I have seen is the addition of a BotN style fight at Pennsic. General SCA calibration and fighting technique has not changed.Sjolander wrote:Zombie-thread!!! Now that another year of BoTN has come and gone, does anyone notice a difference?

Re: my first attempt at a spangen/ crusader face helm
Really nice work on a first helm. The over all shape and look is nicely done. Only thing I can see from here is that the gap on the side, between the front and back wrap plates still looks wide below the re-enforcement strap. It looks like the wearer's jawbone may be exposed to a thrust through that...

Duct Tape.
I know it holds the world together but it doesn't have to hold your entire shield edge on. I've the same as you above. Nice kit, but the shield they are using is beat to hell with exposed green garden hose held on by duct tape.
