Re: my first attempt at a spangen/ crusader face helm

For a first attempt that is pretty cool! A couple things, your nose bridge is to wide, make the eye holes closer together. You will get better vision. On the next one, put the butt joint for the brow wrap band at the back. It looks nicer that way. IF this is for SCA combat, there are a few issues. 1...

Re: Large starter buckets

Those are for up to 24.5-25" head with height of 8.5-9" from browline to shoulder. Can be used by someone with smaller head, just add padding. Typical loaner helm size. Might not be a bad idea at that. Im pretty awful with a camera. LOL! Well it was more meant as a joke. BUT, if you are game I can ...

Re: 16th Century Breastplate Question

huh, I went back and looked through all my stuff. Most of the big roped flat topped Breastplates I have images for have those 2 holes. Interesting. The only thing I could think of is it somehow helped secure the gorget plate to the breastplate. OR a tie thread through those holes and tied to a chain...

Re: Shield sizing question...

In a shield, an inch or two more or less makes zero difference tactically. Weight, maybe. And that can be adjusted by picking your thickness. OH I disagree. The difference of 1-2" can mean the difference between a blocked leg shot and a missed block. I think you'd have to be the same height and dre...

Re: [Question] Unique Tourney Prizes

When I played Henry VIII at a Lilies one year, we had a combat of the Thirty style ransom battle. I had Papal "Writ of Despensation" drawn up for my fighters as their ransoms. Hand done on handmade paper. Each fighter was given his "get of hell free" writ as his ransom payment should he be captured....

The butted will cost you. Id say probably no more than $200. With pakistan selling riveted shorts for $300-$400 the market has dropped out of the bottom for butted.

Landsknecht and the waffenroc have crossed my mind... I'm a little intimidated by the volume of sewing that would include, but not completely scared away. It keeps me at the padded hose and knee cops for my legs (obscured by the skirt of a waffenroc), hidden splints and elbows for my arms (or elbow...

a note on UPS (not usps, ups) "insurance"... it's not insurance. You are paying for a declared value. If it's lost, you must then prove the value. If it was insurance, you could insure a rubber dog turd for $1000 and if they lost it, they'd pay you a grand. But you're paying to declare the value. O...
