It is a very sweet helm. If I wasn't coveting a firearm so much I would not be parting with it.

FS: AB Hammer SS Sallet w/integrated bevor

I've got an AB Hammer Sallet for sale. It's only been very lightly used. Stainless Steel, I'm not positive but I want to say 12-14ga stainless. I was told once that this Sallet was 1 of 2 that AB made as "sisters" one had a hard tail and the other had an articulated tail. IIRC the one with the artic...

Re: Almain Splints for SCA - any ideas?

Irish, I don't think that is 100%. The King of England actually sets prices on these several times in the 16th to ensure people can buy them. These were the quick and dirty get you on the field of the 16th century. Just check out Henry VIII State Papers. The guy does the same with several other ite...

Re: P.O.R. 15

Yeah, its spendy but I figured if it worked well it'd be worth it. I'm thinking of dipping one of the helmets in oxidizing cleaner to give it a patina before wire brushing the heck out of it then applying the P.O.R. 15. If you are planning on wire brushing it anyway why are you even worrying about ...

Killian what you are showing is a VERY late version of the Leine. 15th-16th centuries infact. The big angel winged sleeves combine with the Ionar (vest) is much later period than he is looking for. While there is evidence for the Leine as early as the 5th cent. It's shape back then is closer to a By...

Re: Almain Splints for SCA - any ideas?

I started this project with the intent to make a kit that would reflect how a poorer conscript might be equipped, something you don't see too often. I thought it would be an easy project to get back into armoring with, and would have been if I wasn't trying to make them SCA legal. Thanks for the he...

Nice guantlet!

I've always liked the Milanese style. Probably the the best/easiest style to make for SCA combat.

I think it looks horrible. Sallets didn't really have slots cut into the visors. And certainly didn't have them cut in above the eye slot. IF you must cut into the visor look at later period examples: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/HJRK_A_110_-_Sallet_combination_of_Maximilian_I,...

Agreed. If USA armourers are any benchmark. You are looking at roughly 4-6 months per suit. At their projection, that is 11.5 suits per year.

at todays prices they are almost the same! :( Which is silly, since the AK, by design, is made with crappy parts with horrible tolerances (and still work reliably). It's like an 80's F-150 being the same price as a Ferrari... Thank the president and congress for pushing an "assault weapons ban".
