Re: Best armor design for a small woman

If you are going to hide it, why worry about making it leather? Also, if you are going to make it leather, why use an A-historical shape? I am a fan of using lamallar for woman fighters. You can tailor it to their shape easily and it conforms to their body types easier than more rigid styles. If you...

You said it is spring steel?
It has a crease in it and the eye slot is slightly crushed.
Are you sure it's spring steel?

Re: EBAY auctions to make investment capitol

I wondered who the hell was selling all this stuff. Pretty gear, well priced too. That sallet doesn't have a bevor with, correct? I,e not SCA legal currently? At 16ga mild, I wouldn't be too keen on making it SCA legal. I don't think it would last. Murdock, are the drop holsters for righty or lefty?

It's been done before. It's not all that easy and the success of the results vary. At the absolute least you have to refinish the helm due to the weld spots.

I'd say mid to late 16th century is not out of the question. Kinda depends on the status of the soldier. The almain rivet has very similar "wider" jack chain style arms on them.

Re: interest in single hand spears.

You can't use fiberglass for short spears in the SCA (at least that is my recollection). I'm assuming you are wanting to make these for SCA.
Only 9ft and greater can be made of fiberglass.

From what I have seen there is about a hundred or more years between when the bascinet went out of use and when the waffenrock came into style. Even the later style of "owl face" sallet is hard to place with a waffenroch. If you want to wear a waffenrock and look historical you are going to be best...

Re: oculars

For occulars, the closer you can get the "mask" to your face, the less tunnel vision you will have.

So, making the occulars as part of the helm instead of laying them on top means better vision for the wearer.
