No they are not cast. A waterjet is a cutting machine that uses HIGHLY PRESSURIZED water to cut metal. It is truely an amazing machine. It can cut 1/4 steel plate. As for the spurs I don't think that is what they are. I would imagine the "tags" in the end were left to keep the piece still as it was ...

Bob, I assume that by the lack of response, you aren't interested in a katzbalger one, are you? http://www.siue.edu/COSTUMES/PLATE37CX.HTML I'll look for some other pics too. Not that I'm not interested...Just that I've never seen one before. Do you have a more detailed picture (perhaps a museum ph...

DWolfhunter: I am big guy too. One of the most effective tactics that I have found when dealing with a sniper is closing. FAST, jump in thier shorts and start throwing wraps and rising J shots. Most snipers I have run into like to keep you out at thier range so they can pick you off. When you encoun...

For the most part here in Calontir, marshal's courts are only called when the atrocity was very intentional or if the parties involved can't come to an agreement before hand. Marshal's courts are not supposed to be used as an alternative to discussion but as the next step if an agreement can't be ma...

Sorry, I assumed you were looking for period shields. There are MANY variations of shields in the SCA that are not period. Many have cultural significance and many are just from the imagination of the maker. I do not know of any documentable square center grip shields but I could be wrong. I have ne...

Re: Photos of fighting kits
Does anyone have any photographs of well done, accurate, Irish or early Celtic fighting kits? I'm interested in a wide range as far as time frame. I'd even be interested in Viking influenced / Irish. Thanks. I quick rule of thumb is to look at the english were wearing about 50 years prior to the ti...

Mikhail has the jist of it. Please look at your kingdoms standards for SCA great swords with ricassos. In Calontir the ricassos must be of some kind of padding, and if theya re functional must reside within the 18 inch grip instead of above the added 6 inch grip. I have a greatsword much like the on...

Kit, a few questions: 1. is this for SCA or LH? 2. are you looking for completely period or medievalesque? I second the slat bed: 1. it sets up faster 2. it is stronger for multiple people to sleep on A friend and I make Medievalesque beds for sale based off the Osberg bed design. They are hearty an...

you pretty much have the jist of it. I looked at the Avocal Marshal's handbook and the SCA handbook. I can not find anything about marshal's court. I am also proud to say that we don't have anything called "marshall's court". Nor do we need whatever they do. Hrogn I marshal's court is a conveining of marshals to determine blame, cause, and punishment of "illegal" or unchivalrous acts on the battlefield. If you have marshals in your kingdom you...

A few years ago (4 a think) at Pennsic during a melee battle we (Calontir) faced off against the Tuchux. I was crouched down behind a scutum. The Tuchux came in on a press.
