Pictures, Pictures will make people want to buy your work. If you don't have a digital camera, fine take normal pics and scan them in. If you have to use a digital take the pictures outside on a sunny day. DON"T TAKE THEM INSIDE especially with out a flash. I to have heard alot about your work but h...

is the helm still fixable? i can remove the articulated neck piece and add a piece in the back. Also i can add two more rivits (not roofing screws) into the face. the pattern from that link showed the eye holes almost exactly matching mine. Also i don't think 12 hours of working on this is "rushed"...

Tom321: I agree with Thadeuss, while that is a valiant effort, as a Marshal I would not be able to pass that helm through inspection. The SCA has very specific rules on how you may construct an SCA legal helmet. Just by looking at the photos I can see: The gap for the eye slots look to big There are...

Re: lanyards on weapons
rules aside lanyards and triggers on weapons are dangerous to the user. Weapons are levers and the force applied to a trapped or jammed weapon through the fulcrum, perticularly in melee may injure the wrist. Also I have seen some poor slob dragged through the line by his axe which I bet he wished h...

1. Yes, you can grab the Haft of another person's weapon, BUT ONLY if you have full gauntlets on. Just make sure you don't grab the blade or thrusting tip. And realize that anyone fighting you with a spear won't close, they will stand at range and poke you. 2. Yes, only if you have a full gauntlet a...

Re: Lefthanded rant
Having read through this thread, I find it interesting that most of the posts here discuss tactics. Unfortunately, this is not Seyc's problem. This good gentle's problem is surviving at the end of shield wall. This is not an easy task. Mord. Respectfully I would have to disagree. Surviving in the s...

Re: blow calibration
I disagree completely. Make a better pell. Tape up your swords better. Is your pell padded? Would you tell a boxer that a punching bag is for slow work? SCA fighting is like any other martial art, success requires practicing full-speed, full-power techniques on something other than your freinds. Ga...

So apparently I am hitting to hard, or not hard enough, although I feel like I am putting the same ammount of effort behind every shot, I also feel the ones that get called excessive are to unarmored or lightly armored areas(when I say lightly, I mean not steel), and I just dont have the skill to p...

Not opening that gap requires that they stay tight, and rotate back slightly, folding their flank in slightly. It also means they aren't facing forward anymore. I'll take that. Exactly, which what you are supposed to do if you are getting flanked on the end. Which getting poked in the side means. T...

That's why I like picking on left flanks where they've put a lefty there; the lefty shifts the shield to cover more of their left side, opening a gap between their shield and the next fighter's, which I can then exploit. If they do it right it WON'T open a gap between the shields, but you are right...

One of the biggest mistakes many do when forming and using shield walls is not having enough or the right kind of artillary OR not having them placed correctly in the line. If you are on the end and you are getting poked in the side, rotate your sheild a little to face the poker and scream for some ...

Frankly it is hard to say, there were so many! Also, back then I used to come up to Pennsic on Wed or Thursday of war week, so I may have missed it. Funny isn't it? Back then there was no war "week" it was war weekend. The only heavy point battles were on Sat and Sun (maybe Friday too?) I remember ...

I don't see that the rules says you have to have an edge. If that is what you want to do with it, just tape the stick and its all "flat". The letter of the law my say it is ok, but the INTENT of the law will make every marshal bounce it. Unless this is for a specified tournament with special weapon...

I think one of the reasons there is alot of "confusion" on where the Tuchux came from is the same pronounciation of Tuchux and Tuchucks. There are Tuchucks groups that practice the whole Gorean dog collar and chain BDSMesque lifestyle. And when talking about the Tuchucks someone can easily mistake t...

I guess my point is that, according to what I have seen in the rules, you can't take the field with what is essentially a standard SCA sword minus the edge markings. Or can you? I'm making some notes on simulating a behourd in SCA combat and I'd like to know if folks could do this or not. Correct, ...

In Calontir it does not explicitly say you can't but it has this. 2) An acceptable thrusting blow to the face shall be a directed touch and should be substantially lighter than to other portions of the body. [Thrusts to the remainder of the head and throat area are not allowed because of the danger ...

Wait a minute. Are you saying that now I cannot hip check someone's shield and send them over a hay bale? To my knowledge you NEVER could. In Calontir I madu must have a lanyard or "trigger" all backup weapons must have a lanyard or "trigger" 2 handed weapons do not have to have a lanyard because of their nature. Personally I love the helm but it is the face grill that I don't like. With A helm that is so close to the period example I think the face grill detracts from it just because it is an "imbelishment".
