Re: Leather kit?
Kinda depends on what you mean by "predominantly leather". A lot of early period guys use leather for lamallar, hidden cuisses, and vambraces. Just as an FYI, for the most part "leather armor" is more of a fantasy/SCA thing. There are examples of SOME parts of armour being made of leather, but not a...

Re: fencing mask visor?
Yes, but honestly, I think you would be better served if you just pounded out perf plate instead of using an old 3 weapons mask. The visibility is almost the same between the 2 and the perf plate is MUCH more robust and less likely to fail. It might even be easier than fiddling with trying to cut an...

Re: ABS vs Kydex vs... what? Plastic properties
I believe ABS is more brittle than Kydex. Ie, ABS is more apt to crack and break when bent while Kydex will bent and create a "white" discolored line where the bend happens. It weakens the spot but requires repeated flex to finally break. That being said, for Lamallar/scale, I don't think there is m...

If I recall, Icefalcon only sells the finished product, while Ebonwulf only sells the loose scales. I may be wrong, I'm sure one or the other will correct me if I am. My understanding is that this is correct, as well. So, would that mean that Ebonwolf sells the same plates that Icefalcon uses to ma...

Re: serious shield painters of the SCA, a question, pease.
Isebella, I can understand the point you are making, but the reality is that people do not often want to pay what the shield-painting is worth because of its rapid deterioration. At least that is my experience. The very fact that it will be destroyed makes people want to spend less than its worth t...

I once sewed 3 fender washers to an elbow pad so they covered the points on the elbow with 16ga over 1/2" padding. I have known people who did that for real, and used them as hidden armour right up until the first time they actually took a hard shot to the elbow. As listed above, there is a differe...

All that any marshal wants to see is that it works and that you won't get injured on their watch. That's their job and it is the reason the rules are subject to interpretation regardless of the letter of the law. Oddly enough that is probably the most concise description of being a Marshal I have e...

Chainmail with no helmet. Chain was used from the Romans all the way through to the 17th century by pretty much every culture. I'm not going to say it never happened. But, I have never seen a Black Sallet that was NOT paired with Cavalry.
The Almain Rivets were munitions grade armourers for infantry.
When you say "german infantry" are you talking about a Landsknecht or regular military conscript?
