Dont kid yourself. Veg tanned is strong as hell. The problem is, it takes marks and stains REALLY easily.. especially if its damp and you get iron or steel near it. (Same problem with wet oak.. the tannins in the oak bond with the iron and hold onto it.. ). I'd worry more about the finish appearanc...

Its kind of hard to tell exactly how his hand is oriented but I assume hes attempting the standard SCA 'head wrap'. This isnt ...

I disagree, if it strikes the helmet solidly it should be counted regardless of whether there was noggin in the area hit. Otherwise, someone could construct a helmet with protrusions and plates that would deflect all blows away from the head and they would never have to call anything. Some forms of...

After being struck in the head: "High!" Actually that one can be a very legitimate call. depending on the shot and helmet. If one is wearing a high point bascinet or other high riding helm and shot comes that is high on the point with no downward force it can be called high meaning no damage to the...

I would encourage everyone to buy one or more of these after (or before) they get passed on a kingdom level. I saw and played with one Rod had a War College this weekend.

It was very low profile, very supple and compressed well under hand pressure and thrust pressure easily.
