Maybe when I finish relacing the lamallar and get my hidden legs and arms I will show it.

And Tarquinn. You should learn to block that shot. For my helmets sake :!:

I will have to dig them up at home. As to the "hat" thing, I was more refering to a helm. My mislabeling sorry. There is not much of anything on Irish from 10th cent and before. I have looked heavily to the vikings for armour and weapons, as well as the Romans. As to the sheilds, I will have to look...

Yes, what Saverio said. Althought to add something abou the armour. For 10th Cent. Irish, There are references of bits and pieces of armour on Irish warriors, usually some kind of pot helm or viking nasal (If they wore one). Or a chainmaille hauberk (if they wore one). Lamallar (if they wore any). T...

You can do a nice Crusader rig for fairly cheap. Maille was not ALL they wore, many wore COPs or Gambesons. Hidden armour is another option. Just make sure it IS hidden well so it won't detract from your rig. Also, if you want to do Lammallar on the cheap look here: m About 1/2 way down the page the...

You guys must come from hard hitt'n Kingdoms. I have had my shaved 1/25" rattan sword for about a yr now and it is fine. Seaxes had many uses through the years. First off, yes just a normal, everday knife nothing special. Now, not in a sense of living history, but in a sense as an Asatruar, Seaxes are used to carve ruins.. and have their own place in asatruar ritual. (shakes his head wondering why everyone around her...

We use rattan for the following reasons: 1. Rattan shreds and does NOT splinter when it breaks 2. Relative close weight to real swords 3. Is flexible to help transfer force away instead of into the target like unbending metal can 4. at the time of conseption it was cheap and easily obtainable Other ...

I understand your thing about shooting someone from afar and all that, and in a tournament or pas I totally agree with that position. I would never duel someone with my bow either. Insane Irish I have to disagree. There are a few cultures within the time frame the SCA deals with that not only used the bow but relied upon it heavily. Magyars, Avars, Huns, Mongols. From what I've read there was quite a class of nobility among them. Bows and the like were not only tools of war b...

look to viking style pouches of the same time period. It is reasonable to think that with as much traveling the vikings did that the Irish could easily have adopted the viking pouch idea.

If nothing else, simple draw string pouchs date back to well before Ireland was "Ireland" :)

To build on what Lord Christopher said. Not only does Calontir hold a toy drive for Toys for Tots, but the WHOLE of the SCA holds it. Every kingdom participates in the TFT drive. Last year I believe the SCA raised something like 30,000 toys USA wide. That is a crap load of toys. :D

The Society Earl Marshal has banned the teaching of Historical Swordsmanship techniques. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
