Sir Gaston: I agree with Giles. While you do look awsome and look better than 80% of the SCA heavy fighters I still don't like the idea of making non period persona and portaying them in the SCA. that is why we have cut off dates. Even though those dates have changed since I started they are still t...

You know, folks can castigate the rapier community to their heart's content but I have never seen any rapier scenario that I have not seen a heavy version of. And the rapier community, in my opinion, is much more open to substantive change than the heavy community. that is the point I was trying to...

When I have talked to a couple of rapier marshall's about the affect that the anti modern rule will have on silly parrying weapons, the responses have usually been, "Oh the stuff might go away for a bit, if it does at all, but it will creep back in." What really gets me is the absolute pride I hear...

fiebings dye I believe, I found it at my local Hobby Lobby. Comes in a yellow and black box.
The Leather Factory has it I believe
www.leatherfactory.com
It is an alchohal based Dye. So I dried fast and didn't re-work the rawhide.

Re: Stainless armor opinions
I personally don't like the overall look of stainless steel due to the fact of its not very historical and i like darker armor. But i want to hear some other peoples opinions... What do you mean by "darker" armour? Are you Blankenshield?! SS is just fine with me. But I do agree that if you start wi...

Follow up: After letting the rawhide dry completely I have noticed that the sinew it loose. I am unsure as to how to fix this or if it even needs fixing. It is not "hanging off" loose, just loose compared to when I laced it. The rawhide has formed a hard tight barrier around the shield and I think t...

And hopefully that silly crap that Winterfell mourns about will cease. Atlantia's anti-modernity laws also apply to rapier. In their application they apply to non-period parrying items and obviously modern rapier bags around the list field. Alejandro Being a heavy fighter, I have never really follo...

Yes, I folded the strips in half long ways so that I would have about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of overlap on each side of the shield. I then sewed down the first couple of holes along the rawhide. I then took a pair of needle nose vise grip pliers (with duct tape wrapped around the teeth so's not to mare t...

I just sent you some crappy pics of the helm that I got from Krag of Krag axe armoury. www.Kragaxe.com It took a little while to get the helm (about 1 yr) but that was due to other circumstances. ie, him moving, graduating college, shop flooding. It has held up well and was EXACTLY done the way that...

Actually Glen on this occasion it is. I know Trevor and he and group he has put together are trying to make the more period type event/pas that the SCA has ever seen. There are armour and garb restrictions as well as period customs and fighting scenarios. Just because you are not SCA, don't look dow...

I just finished my shield last night. The kind of bones I used were "Bone Buddies" brand. I bought four LARGE (read as about a 12" long rawhide bone) bones. The kind that are tied in knots on the ends. I then soaked 2 of them in hot water for about 2-3 hrs. checking on them periodically. I then unti...

Right off the top of my head, we have a group that uses safty orange as a badge in an intentional "f*** you" to the mainstream SCA and often use ripstop nylon of that color for garb. That is not a reasonable attempt. Ya know I have a 7 1/2 ft polearm partisan I call the Retribution for those exact ...

I am preparing to edge my round in Rawhide as we speak. I am using large rawhide chew toys. I am going soak them until plyable, then cut into strips and then edge the shield. I am then going to "sew" it on with artifical sinew and let dry. The rawhide will contract and sinch up onto the sheild and o...

I am looking for a greathelm. I am only going to wear it sparingly (probably once/twice a yr) I would like a sugarloaf or pembridge or any other style that would work for around 1375 AD. This is the a speciallized event. Now to the nitty gritty. I don't want to pay a bunch since this helm would sit ...
