Sir Gaston: I agree with Giles. While you do look awsome and look better than 80% of the SCA heavy fighters I still don't like the idea of making non period persona and portaying them in the SCA. that is why we have cut off dates. Even though those dates have changed since I started they are still t...

You know, folks can castigate the rapier community to their heart's content but I have never seen any rapier scenario that I have not seen a heavy version of. And the rapier community, in my opinion, is much more open to substantive change than the heavy community. that is the point I was trying to...

When I have talked to a couple of rapier marshall's about the affect that the anti modern rule will have on silly parrying weapons, the responses have usually been, "Oh the stuff might go away for a bit, if it does at all, but it will creep back in." What really gets me is the absolute pride I hear...

fiebings dye I believe, I found it at my local Hobby Lobby. Comes in a yellow and black box.

The Leather Factory has it I believe
www.leatherfactory.com

It is an alchohal based Dye. So I dried fast and didn't re-work the rawhide.

Re: Stainless armor opinions

I personally don't like the overall look of stainless steel due to the fact of its not very historical and i like darker armor. But i want to hear some other peoples opinions... What do you mean by "darker" armour? Are you Blankenshield?! SS is just fine with me. But I do agree that if you start wi...

Follow up: After letting the rawhide dry completely I have noticed that the sinew it loose. I am unsure as to how to fix this or if it even needs fixing. It is not "hanging off" loose, just loose compared to when I laced it. The rawhide has formed a hard tight barrier around the shield and I think t...

And hopefully that silly crap that Winterfell mourns about will cease. Atlantia's anti-modernity laws also apply to rapier. In their application they apply to non-period parrying items and obviously modern rapier bags around the list field. Alejandro Being a heavy fighter, I have never really follo...

Yes, I folded the strips in half long ways so that I would have about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of overlap on each side of the shield. I then sewed down the first couple of holes along the rawhide. I then took a pair of needle nose vise grip pliers (with duct tape wrapped around the teeth so's not to mare t...

I just sent you some crappy pics of the helm that I got from Krag of Krag axe armoury. www.Kragaxe.com It took a little while to get the helm (about 1 yr) but that was due to other circumstances. ie, him moving, graduating college, shop flooding. It has held up well and was EXACTLY done the way that...

What maeryk said. I am not even sure if you CAN wet form wood in complex curves and if you can I don't think you can do it in that tight of a radius. Although personally I would take a block of wood down to my local wood worker and let him carve it out on his wood lathe. It will take about 30 min.

I just finished my shield last night. The kind of bones I used were "Bone Buddies" brand. I bought four LARGE (read as about a 12" long rawhide bone) bones. I am preparing to edge my round in Rawhide as we speak. I am using large rawhide chew toys. I am going soak them until plyable, then cut into strips and then edge the shield. This is the a speciallized event. Now to the nitty gritty. I don't want to pay a bunch since this helm would sit ...

Actually the "should have armour that is period in outward apperance, no showing mundane items" IS the SCA rule for entering a list. It is just not enforced very well.

The SCA has had a "10 foot" rule for a long time.

If it is a weapon, it can NOT be wood. SCA list rules won't allow it. It a wooden weapon broke there could be sharp pointy ends to poke people with, or splinters in the eyes.

But you could make one out of Rattan and foam or split rattan with padding like a Falchion.

It's easy. drill a hole in the pointy end. Then fasten a mouthpeice to that and there you go. The horn will be pretty strong. It will stand up to a pretty good beating BUT I would not take it onto the feild of battle. I imagine that a few shots to it will make it split just like Boromir's horn
