Edric. A friend of mine and I run a hobby business out of his garage. We make sturdy camp beds based off of the Osberg bed. They are a modified mortise and tenan bed. sturdy to the point of me giving my "Aiden's fat man stamp of approval" on it. I am about 300 pounds and I have NO problem with the c...

As to the weapons question: I think it is regional, in Calontir LOTS of people play with greatswords/9' spears etc. and undoubtedly Calontir leans more toward an early period kingdom. I think it has to do with the game we play. While each person picks a time period they like and portrays that period...

I have to quote Joe Dirt here by saying "DAAAAAAANG!" I have NEVER met any of these uber-modernized nike sporting, pink sundress wearing, suglass toting people. Actually Dalewyn I disagree whole heartedly: I will give you the fact that when first made plastic oriental armour looks good. But after a season or 2 fighting and falling down in the mud and dust scratches and dulls the plastic until it looks just like scratched and dull plastic. All faded out. If ...

I agree with alcy. If you sell 3 kits at $60 that is a total of $180. and you only have $90 in it. That is a $90 profit. Believe me you will sell at least three kits. How do I know? If I were you I would paint first then Cuirbolle (sp?) I am unsure if the paint would stick for long periods of time if painted after the wax was applyed. Usually you need a psuedo rough surface for paint to adhere to. you would only have to paint one side of the leather, thus allowing the wax to se...

Yeah, but I don't really want Bent wood. I mean it would seem to be the most period. But I want this thing to be able to pack flatter. If I go with the woven sides then I can remove them and lay the thing flat for transport. But that creats problems with the structure of the pack and I would like to...

Another possibility for constructing the sides is twining. Here's an example of a soft twined bag: m , but you can also use the same technique with more rigid vertical slats or reeds, twining them together with softer cordage. Twining and naalbinding have been found at early Norse sites. Just some p...

Funny you bring this up with that URL: I plan on doing the exact same thing with my Lammallar. And yes it is period, very period infact. There Illustrations that have leather edged lammallar on them. in Calontir for the most part we use them palm up. That way if we have to ground the sheilds we just drop to our knees and don't have to switch grips. Although more and more horizontal center punch grips are being added to the "palm up" grip to fasilitate better open feild carry and use. All Calonti...

Offhand spear and sword. Followed closely by longsword and greatsword. Advantages- great visibility, decent parrying, fast long range stabbing attacks. Disadvantages- vulnerable to thrusts, must stay mobile, not period. Actually Fearghus, If you think of the 6' spear as a broken lance, that combo s...

To my knowledge the only LEGAL half swording allowed in society is with marked ricassos. So if he was half swording with an unmarked blade then he was either doing it illegally or had special permission from the marshals.
