Lots and lots of gals wearing lamellar too. A lot of guys hmm and hawww over the flexible chest protection but I figure if it was that big a deal you would see a lot fewer women wearing it. Honestly I think lamallar is probably the BEST protection for women that want to have something that "bends" ...

Re: Questions Regarding the Legality of a Mace

Just a little clarification from someone that was there and was neither the marshal or the weapon owner. This mace hit like a brick. One of our longtime fighters (probably 15+ years) mentioned to me that when he got hit with it was one of 4 times he has ever been whited out by a weapon. And he figh...

Re: Hockey Shoulder Pads - Do or Don't?

Do you want to look like a hockey player wearing a tunic? If not, don't use hockey shoulder pads. I'm going to disagree a bit here. I wore street hockey shoulder pads for years under a gambeson. They offered good protection and unnoticeable withe the gambeson buttoned up. Decent protection and inex...

If not, don't use hockey shoulder pads.

If you have serviceable shoulder protection now, just rig up a pourpoint (read as un padded gambeson) and attach the shoulders to that. Then put your tunic on over it. Wa la!

Less than six months? I'd say drop the mace and learn good sword technique first. As mentioned before, good technique is good technique. Once you know how to throw shots, the weapon used is not as important.

Re: Questions Regarding the Legality of a Mace

I can see the weight making it not nice. that, right there, is why you should re-think your approach. I'm not looking to hurt anyone but I also want an effective weapon that isn't a sword. The weight of it isn't nice but it does move slower than a sword and it does have padding to prevent injury. J...

Gavin, so you are saying that because the length of a rattan sword is greater and the 'mass' of the sword is 'usually' in the hand and not the head that the force of the impact for a 'typical' SCA good blow is significantly different? Basically, yes. Since the balance point of a mass should be abov...

Re: Firedryk Steel--should I worry?

This year they were not at Pennsic. Just because "they" were not vending at Pennsic does not mean "They" were not AT pennsic. Bottom line: when you deal with a new armorer, make sure you have it from the owner (not an underling) what their policies are. Lesson learned. Or, you know, read all the te...

Ok hold up here. Armstreet, you are not dealing with an issue of your gauntlets not working. You are dealing with an issue of IGNORANT MARSHALS. This is what I would suggest you do. Have your guy at Pennsic take a set of your version 2 improved and version 1 hourglass gauntlets to the Societ Earl Ma...

Not actually rust. It is a corrosive reaction between two dissimilar metals. Statue of Liberty was/is a great example. Iron frame with a copper skin. Dang thing was rotting apart. Seal one of the metals with something like paint, lacquer and it helps to stop the reaction. Yeah, what he said. I had ...

IF you're gonna buy one. I'd have them make you one without all the stupid cut work in them. They vaguely resemble a sugerloaf greathelm. To be honest, the CNC pierce work on those helms are a METRIC TON better than ashcraft.
I don't think those are Ashcraft. Or if they are, they are made by a worker in that shop and sold independently.

That being said, they are STILL ASS UGLY and totally NON PERIOD.

Re: Using the Icefalcon riveted mail tool

Stainless rivets of any type are a PITA. I constantly have problems getting them to peen properly. I've never worked with mail. But with normal armour rivets I typically go with Brass for the 'bling' factor, but also to avoid rust, and for the easier peening. Of course I would expect that would be ...
