The really cool thing about period pole arms is that allmost any design that is practical was done. I have seen pictures of a glaive that is single edged and has a nice spike coming out the back. So the front is a slashing weapon where the back is a piercing/mass weapon.

Would it do us any good to post period examples. There has allready been a very good display of a great sword longer than six feet. I do not feel much inclined to shuffle through my library trying to find images for naught but entertainment of others. I know they are there. Leo does as well. Thats g...

Ah its all illegal Aaron, I say we get together, grab some rebated weapons and bash the hell out of each other. Full body targets except no stabbing at the face. I don't want us to have to add mesh behind our eye slots.

What say you?

Is anything going on or worn or fought in or used in the Battle of 30 now illegal? Yes, big smashy weapons over six feet. Edward Incorrect. The COTT at Pennsic has been limited to axes and poles under 6' for years now. Only the spears introduced this past year were allowed to be of greater length. ...

OMG! Also dual long swords is also period (see: Miyamoto Musashi for reference) Although I agree that it was not likely a tourney form of Europe but then again neither was melee tourney on foot. Some times I really think I should stop trying to do things right, break out some sports armour, grab a basket hilt sword and shield and conform to what the SCA wants us to be. While I am at it I should make a short pole arm with a one inch blade and a basket hilt in the center.
