This answer is for nearsitedness only, so if far sited then use one of the options others have brought up. Have you ever tried on those glasses with the solid black lenses with a number of tiny holes in them? its a cool, they force a near sited persons eye to focus through a smaller area and it work...

check your local laws before forgoing the flame resistant. Its becoming a more and more common requirement for all fabric structures to be so treated. I've seen here in Oregon a fire marshal do a few random checks for flame treated canvas (boughten tents have a tag near the door) if the tag isn't fo...

this is conjecture here, but it looks to me that you held the piece the same why while working your courses. you should rotate the piece while going around each course. To warp the way it did looks to me to be the result of the shape of the hammer face and/or the angle it hits at, add that to the fa...

stop ribs over fabric?
Is there any evidence of a stop rib being used on fabric covered breastplates such as Corrizia? I found one iffigy in my books that looks like it, but its not a large or clear enough picture to determine anything definiative from.

Ok heres a couple of pictures of it set up at AnTir/West war. the daylight picture the left side looks off as I some how forgot to attach the ridge rope before I stood it up, which by the way I was able to do all by myself. Yes Mr Finkas is corect the poles are to short, 15ft was to tall so I guesst...

paint probably not. the fabric is actually a stripe that doesn't show up in the photos. I am thinking of adding green stripes over all the seams, not sure yet. As to the wind ropes, they set up 15ft out from the pole. I did try and it will stand stable with them set at only 10ft out wich puts the st...

Drachus wrote I wonder then why they would combine a set of gauntlets and a helmet that might be as far as 100 years apart, unless I am just way off on the helmet, it looks a lot like the black prince great helm dont it? Look closer at the helm, it has a LOT of difference from the earlier great hel...

You are a sick man (refering to the cleanliness of your shop not your modern meathods). There are differnt levels of armourers just as much as there is differnt levels of armour buyers. Some can afford and like caviar at the Ritz while others a burger at the fast food joint. Some fall to the manufac...

I fight in a pair of hand made riding boots, that are thinner than most of the turn shoes out there (3oz uppers). They are thin enough that they dont add any support to the ankle. The first time I fought in them was a dreary rainy day and a few of the other fighters tried to discourage me from weari...

Im no expert here. The plates looked to me to be tinned as was common in this type of armour and that would account for the lack of corrosion. The third picture down its not clear enough to know for certain but dont the small side plates have a makers mark stamped in them. The same picture does have...

depends on the exact look you are looking for. A vinager bath wil lightly etch the surface leaving a nice even gray finish to it. Simularly dabbing mustard over the surface will give a simular look but modeled and blotchy. You could allways bury it in the back yard for a few weeks and then dig it up...

As one that has used some of the cliches listed I can show some of the other side of the coin. In all things we all have our priorities, in combat mine are in order #1 fight honorably and hard, #2 learn something new, #3 have fun, and last is #4 try and win. At least with me my not caring if I win o...

that shape is quite simular to what was commonly used in Itally in drawings of herladry. I cann't remember what time frame they where popular but from what little I read they where primarly just used in drawings and sculptures of arms not in any ohter form I know of. If I get a chance tonight I'll d...

since you have the welder why not take a ball bearing or such and make a long headed hammer that will reach inside the welded helm? That would make it possible to dish it out deeper fairly easly. While tossing this peice and starting over will have some leasons learned from it, fixxing it will teach...

I've done two, http://members.armourarchive.org/knitebee/cornet2.jpg I'm far more of an armourer than a jewler and that shows in cornets. another option out there is http://www.blackwoodjewellery.com/
One trick I did on the two I made was to trap a light weight leather suspension in the roll on the bottom, made for very comfortable wearing.
