Thank you very much Peder, I cann't count the hours I've unsuccesfully searched for that. Tasha, allready looked at an ILL on that book, just been to busy to get to the library and do it. Drew its that Escher look that makes me love it so much. In another section of the painting there is a figure in...

looking for a detail from a painting

I'm realy wanting to attempt to make this outfit http://members.armourarchive.org/knitebee/scan002001.JPG but would really like to see from the waist down on it. Its part of the "history of Saint John the Baptist" frescos by Jacopo and Lorenzo Salimbeni in the Urbino. The picture I have ca...

Re: Armor Repair Toolbox contents?????!!!

What does everyone have in the armor toolbox that you take with you to events. Some times I take all three of my armour tool boxes with me a foot locker sized antique machinest chest full of rivets, buckles, leather strapping, pliers, snips, awl, etc, etc. Then there is the 8in tall x 24in wide x 6...

Are those for jousting? They look pretty sturdy I am curious, which method did you use for the anticlastic raising on the tendon guard? They are built for a fighter in the Adrian Empire, they are way to lightweight for jousting, elbows and rerebrace(didn't want an easy to damage turner) are 16g whi...

after looking at the pictures, I'd say your larger hammer comes to to sharp of a point for my taste, but its not so far off to make a huge differance. Main thing I see if your ring of hammer marks, your first pass if to far into the piece enstead of near the edge, every pass should slightly overlap ...

This is my first try at both the full wrap elbows and the turner on the rerebrace. Crituque welcome, I allready know that there is to much gap with the arm straight. Making the anticalastic wraps on the elbow was easier than I thought it would be BUT fitting them to the arms was 10x harder than I ev...

Knitebee, praytell, how much would these gauntlets sell for? depends (dont you hate that answer) As this pair is done with the stamped rivet heads and all $1000. With simple rivets $900. Do plan on a personal pair with case hardened plates, tinning on the hidden plates, gilding on the exposed plate...

Weight? According to my scale (not the greatest scale) 2.4lb all 14g construction. Can be built in lighter gauge if wanted, running the math all 16g would be just a fraction under 2lb, can also do a mix of 18g-14g with thicker where wanted, would have to built it to get an accurate weight. brian

blackened sugarloaf auction

Just finished this today. 12g top 14g bottom and visor heat blackened. 30in inside diameter (without any padding) 10 1/2in front to back 8in side to side there are some very minor flaws (porisity) due to the gas valve on the welder going out. I started doing the research and noticed a number of breast and back plates that appeared to have lames! A "kidney" belt(demi-placcate?) with a number of thin lames above it and then a "chest" plate above - (examples m m ). This made me very happy and I started to work out how I...

I'm helping a friend with a set of historically based bazubands (how ever you spell them). How did they latch close? buckles and straps would show in some of the photos...

A leangth of 3/8in or 1/2in drill rod, then cut it up and grind your own tools as you need them, at least thats what I do. Square stock works better than round as you can feel what way you are holding the tool.

since the old gloves are trash cut them off and grind of the head of the rivet and push it through backwards. looks to me like your biggest issue is the eye slot area (I think thats what we see in your photo) is locking your whole piece up ridgidly. Looking at it the lowest part of the face plate that can be seen in the photo fairly closely follows the lines of the brim. Then you have the triangular area th...

the plates are riveted to the glove itself? typically they are riveted to leather strips that are sewn or glued to the gloves. If they are actually riveted to the glove you could allways just cut the gloves leaving them slightly past the finger plates then sew them to new gloves.

Beyond the strapping issues allready discused, I personally rivet a wide leather tab across the top of the cuisse and punch holes for pointing into the leather. not armour but cool metal work

My son and I have slowly (working at his speed) redoing one of his guitars. Today we finally got the holes for the pickups filed out so finished it up. A little hammer for texture, then a quick grind to bring out the metal shine then a little random heat for color. Now he dug out my airbrush and wan...
