On an upcoming project I'm looking at getting into spring steel (most likely 1050) and the question came up about heat treatment and powder coating. Will the heating from powder coating mess up the heat treatment of the steel?
the thing that is hardest on most angle head grinders is heat build up in the gearbox form contiinous use. Even a cheap grinder will typically hold up well if only used for a minute or two at a time, but once you start using one for 10-20min straight or more thats when you start to notice the differ...
the original you posted looks heraldic in style. No offence intended here but your desings remind me of a painted up welding helm.
What about mixing the two styles together a bit maybe a pheonix with the flames more exagerated and wild?
Just out of curiosity... What is the general opinion on someone *not* wanting to fight someone in a wheelchair? Or on crutches? Or in a brace? If they are there then two things stand true #1 they want to fight #2 they have the gear to be out there safetly. With those in mind at least for me I would...
What do the propper arms look like? Arms are quartered green and black with 4 fluer-de-lis, the dividers are my personal badge, which where more often displayed than arms on a banner. Donasian, I know the newwer ensign is simpler which is why I went with the old one IMHO to offten are household and...
Isabella is making me a banner m She sent me two designs and I dont know which I like best so at her suggestion I'm posting them here for input. (note; the moto is upside down in the drawings but beign corrected) http://www.megapathdsl.net/~amichaels/banners/BBrown3.jpg http://www.megapathdsl.net/~a...
There is a Czech armourer who has done a very interesting interpretation of the Wisby gaunt in question, placing the small finger and wrist plates UNDER the leather. Here's his reproduction . Fascinating piece. Effingham AWSOME That is the look I'm wanting, though I think I'm going to use some of t...
no specific answers for you but some things I've found. #1 wool makes a wonderfull padding, like wool socks are liked by hikers because it naturaly wicks mosture away, it does the same in a gambison, better than cotton. #2 vary who many layers depending on the area of hte gambison and how much prote...
http://www.gdfb.co.uk/acatalog/Medieval ... aille.html look at the photo of the voiders for an idea of how to seam the armpit. if I was you through this area I would drop the extra ring and go with a standard 4-n-1 weave for the joint area.
Joust1 the photo you posted in the other post is the #3 gauntlet (all I have is the wisby book and you showed most everything from it) the thing I find entersting in it is the thumb and knuckle plates have the wide rivit heads on the bottom indicative that they where mounted above the leather/fabric...
I'm looking at making a set of gauntlets based of #3 of the Wisby finds. This pair strikes me as the nuckle plates are mounted above the fabric/leather and the finger plates and small back of the hand plates are mounted underneith, I think this will make for a very striking looking gauntlet. One pro...
looking at the arms, it seems to me that the last two piece on them cover the back of the hands, the pivot at the end of the slot is for the wrist. So you need fingers and thumb not full gauntlets. At least thats my take on this particular armour.
beautifull work. How much effect does the nuckle rider make on the fit and function of the guantlets? I guess I've just asumed since there wasn't a visible one like on hourglass gauntlets that they wheren't needed or used in gothic armour, it never downed on me that they might be there but not visib...
Since I made my own Kidney pouch when I cut out the leather between the belt loops I left it attached so that it hung down behind the pouch and punched holes in it to lace my dagar scabbard on with. I'll try to snap a photo later tonight.
