We call these 'squire's tourneys', I think other placces call them William Marshall tourneys (could be wrong here). Set a time limit for thirty, forty five or sixty minutes. All fighters wander around the eric, issuing challenges to whoever they wish. Winner keeps roaming, loser pops over to a table...

I think you did a really good job, cool pattern and very neat finishing. Two years well spent :)

You may want to attach a couple more straps, just to keep the back plate in place. Look here:

While I don't agree with Stonekeep's indignation, I do agree with his point. Icefalcon's prices don't reflect craftsmanship and authenticity, so much as material, finish, service and stock. It costs money to keep stock, which is why nobody does it- you are tying up materials and labour into somethin...

Look into the 'large' size spun top helms through Ashcraft-Baker. My head is 24.5" around (pretty big), and their regular size helmet fit me really nicely.

Good luck, having a big head is a real pain.

Maybe a change in philosophy... You are not hitting Bob in the head, you are hitting Bob's helmet. Attack the armour, not the guy inside of it.

Just a suggestion, I can't offer anything more concrete. On the rare occasions I suit up and SCA fight, I like hitting people :)

Hey Cerebus The idea for an SCA square centergripped shield was taken from a series of Pictish stone carvings, dated to the 8th century if memory serves. They also appear (very rarely) in High Medieval images of unarmoured judicial combats, used in conjunction with cudgels. If you search back throug...

I've used a 1"X1" piece of wooden dowel on all my centergripped shields, works just fine. I plane it so it tapers narrower towards the ends, and carve the grip round, that's about it. Very easy.

As much as I'm sure you'd like to see it go to a medievalist who would enjoy it as much as you have, you'll likely have more success through an antique book dealer, antiques auction, or similar avenues.

Best of luck with this :)
