We call these 'squire's tourneys', I think other placces call them William Marshall tourneys (could be wrong here). Set a time limit for thirty, forty five or sixty minutes. All fighters wander around the eric, issuing challenges to whoever they wish. Winner keeps roaming, loser pops over to a table...

Actually, you're wrong. There is the Gjermundr (sp-sorry) maile--about two or three hauberks of it. This is the same place that a helmet was discovered. I have a copy of the book at home and I will hopefully remember to check it tonight. Mord. I would appreciate that Mord, the only quasi-scholarly ...

I think you did a really good job, cool pattern and very neat finishing. Two years well spent
You may want to attach a couple more straps, just to keep the back plate in place. Look here:

While I don't agree with Stonekeep's indignation, I do agree with his point. Icefalcon's prices don't reflect craftsmanship and authenticity, so much as material, finish, service and stock. It costs money to keep stock, which is why nobody does it- you are tying up materials and labour into somethin...

Effingham, perhaps you are a bit quick to judge a culture you're not too aware of. Perhaps the one jumping to judge is not I. I have been in kingdoms with DP. I abhored it then, and I abhor it now. And I don't care how "curteous/chivalrous/kind/helpful/smart/kind-to-his-mother" a duke is -- if he (...

Similar incident took place last year in Avacal, with the tournament for Prince. The sponsoring shire apparently erred with the paperwork and the event was not listed in the Kingdom Newsletter. Anything not published in the newsletter is not an official event, and thus the guy who busted his ass to ...

Some of the jests recently about the Atlantian Thug stereotype have got me thinking... what perceptions do fighters from other kingdoms have about fighters from An Tir? Be honest

Maybe i am looking at this wrong but i see them going for 99 cent a pop. If they were 25 cents a pop i would be buying all 500 this second. A dollar a pop is excessive imo when they are not even punched. My mistake, I meant to type $.20 each, not $.25. You are correct though, I just read the auctio...

Hey Cerebus The idea for an SCA square centergripped shield was taken from a series of Pictish stone carvings, dated to the 8th century if memory serves. They also appear (very rarely) in High Medieval images of unarmoured judicial combats, used in conjunction with cudgels. If you search back throug...

Most of what I see coming from India is made with modern machining/tooling as well as manual work. Thus, much of the manual labor is removed from the process. Dunno about this... I've used a 1"X1" piece of wooden dowel on all my centergripped shields, works just fine. I plane it so it tapers narrower towards the ends, and carve the grip round, that's about it. Very easy.

From what I've seen, VIking Age maille is ce...

I just use plain ol' mild steel rivets, 1/4" or 5/16" diameter (can't recall). A friend gave me a bunch, but they are not difficult to track down.
