A Lusitano would be my first choice - ever seen them fight a bull? Amazing! An Andulusian would be second, followed by a Friesian. Cold-bloods (drafts) are too slow and uncoordinated for anything but straight 16th C. tilt usage. Even then, Andulusians were used for battle. Of course, we are talking ...

I can only tell you what an honourable man did under a similar situation:

Templar Bob was squired to a cad who, at one of his rib-fests, got drunk and proceeded to hit on and then insult my lady. TB handed him his spurs and belt and told him to hit the road.
Your milage may vary....

I love the details like the rivet heads, the straps with tips, etc... And to think my Milanese harness still has solid brass "horse" or "tack" buckles! I guess I'm going to have to do some wax-carving & visit Alan Bauldrie if I'm going to keep up!

I think you guys are thinking of 15th C. lances. Early 14th C., they still used straight ash with a disk-shaped "grapper", and no real lathe-work. I'd say a 1 1/2" wide 12' long shaft narrowed with a spokeshave to 3/4" and a leaf-shaped 3" long tip would work, but I'm not sure if they really tapered...

12/3 waxed Irish linen thread is what I use, as well as artificial sinew.
While cowhide is appropriate, for Viking turnshoes I use red deer, elk or moose for the uppers, with thick cowhide for soles with the red deer and elk. Moosehide is thick and doesn't really stretch much.

I've used both del Tins and Starfires. They both have their places. Starfire longswords are too heavy for proper use if they are two-handed, and most people use 28" - 32" blades with a two-handed hilt which defeats the purpose. The 28" blades on the one-handed ones are excellent for sword and buckle...
