A Lusitano would be my first choice - ever seen them fight a bull? Amazing! An Andulusian would be second, followed by a Friesian. Cold-bloods (drafts) are too slow and uncoordinated for anything but straight 16th C. tilt usage. Even then, Andulusians were used for battle. Of course, we are talking ...

I think you guys are thinking of 15th C. lances. Early 14th C., they still used straight ash with a disk-shaped "grapper", and no real lathe-work. I'd say a 1 1/2" wide 12' long shaft narrowed with a spokeshave to 3/4" and a leaf-shaped 3" long tip would work, but I'm not sure if they really tapered...

I, too might be interested in hinges & hasps to fit medieval chests consisting of 1" - 2" thick white oak, as 16 guage is the most I can cold-forge. I am paying $8 - 15.00 each for stamped 12 guage Indian, then pounding them with a blacksmith hammer and blackening them with charcoal/kerosene before ...

For school convocations, Renn. Faires, etc... we do choreograph to a certain extent. We start with a Fiore kill, throw, or disarm, and work backwards from there. We try to do things historically correct, then tie a series of techniques, attacks, counters, etc... into a routine, then build it up to s...

Don't some of you get embarrassed walking out on the field dressed as a hockey puck or and escapee from a Mad Max movie? Where is your pride? We hauled our horse 4 hours to a state park to autherize when I was in the SCA. The park had stables, trails and paddocks and was regularly used for horseback riding. I was in armour on a caparisoned horse, and no one was there, including the marshalls. I road around in the paddock relaxing my horse...

I've used both del Tins and Starfires. They both have their places. Starfire longswords are too heavy for proper use if they are two-handed, and most people use 28" - 32" blades with a two-handed hilt which defeats the purpose. The 28" blades on the one-handed ones are excellent for sword and buckle...
