I think they look flattened too, but the text says: chain mail "a grain d'orge" (barleycorn) of closely meshed riveted rings with nearly round (becoming smaller on the arms) cross sections. I am assuming the writer was examining the maille and had a 3 dime...

Many times I've read how inauthentic Indian maille is since it is round wire, rather than flattened. And rivets were "always" wedges rather than round nails. This example seems to contradict this line of thought. Also, the difference in sleeve sizes - damage, or perhaps worn by a horseman with heavy...

European Round Rivet, Round Cross Section Maille
In another thread, the link for Herman Munich Auction is given. In there is an interesting maille haulberk:

If I were you, I'd buy the harness I liked. If you want to join a group as accurate as Wolf Argent, put together a second kit that fits the station you can afford. After all, you never can have to much armour!!! This whole one time frame thing as its advantages, specialization and resources and all,...

What Chef says is pretty close. As you've seen my Milanese harness, it might be easy to say "Hey you could be a knight." But I don't have the rest of the kit. I am most of the way there, having four pavilions, the armour and the weapons, but my warhorse is only 18 months old, I can't afford a palfre...

John Clement's book is what it is - a useful introduction to various styles of medieval swordsmanship. He starts out by introducing swords, how they were used, how they developed and how they are made. He introduces period manuals, then goes on to describe the guards, the geometry of cuts, sparring,...

To the best of my knowledge, Wayne's armour was all made by Alan Bauldri, although we have a guy affiliated with the group out of Cincinnati named Ben who has recently been making most of our stuff. Not quite up to Alan's level, but you get it in weeks instead of years. My barbute was made by Valent...

I also received a shirt, coif and footed chausses in the same order. I found no mistakes in the rings themselves. The long sleeves are tubular instead of fitted, but as I have a well-padded gambeson it looks like it will work. The neck is too large, but the coif will fill that in. The chausses are t...
