No, sorry, the only one I've seen that large had a steel sleeve. Some of my other Panther tents have 'U' channel, with a bolt on each piece, and one end cut in a 'V' shape, the matching piece cut in 'W' shape, to receive the point. It works well, although I switched to one-piece poles because I have...

He's on his way over here tonight. I'll tell him you are trying to reach him. He calls his armoury AB Hammer now not Crimson Hammer. He also posted a few weeks ago that he was getting out of the business, and is finishing up all existing orders. He moved a year ago towards Elizabethtown, (sp?) and i...

I used cowhide chrome-tanned for the first pair of center-seamed turnshoes I did, and turned them with difficulty dry, using a broom handle. The second pair I used moosehide, appr. 3/16" thick, and they fit perfectly and turn easily. Pictures of both can be found at the Perfectly Period site, 11th C...

Go see the other discussion about pollaxes, as SCA soft-headed pollaxes don't behave in the entrapment of blows like the real ones do. As far as maces and axes are concerned I think that is what the SCA does best. A wrap works with a mace. The mass carries around the momentum. The SCA sword fighting...

Zweihander in Tournaments Edited
It seems whenever I start a topic, someone jumps in and derails it. Please stay on-topic here. Some exherps from the original: The word Landsknecht first appeared around 1470, meaning "servant of the country" with infantry commissioned by Charles the Bold of Burgundy. The Doppelsoldner (sorry, I can...

Interesting. Not a definitive source, but an informative description of how scale armour might have been worn. I think that the representations of mail have been "interpreted", as there are more English examples of forge-welded/riveted mail than scale found in archeaological finds. I'd like to hear ...

I showed up for the first time in full plate harness and got that lecture about how "newbies" should not be wearing plate, and should wear that crap. A girl who started at the same time I did went out and made that mess. I'd personally rather not be involved if a group wished to humiliate its new me...

Normally Patty and I do go to that event to visit with friends. I don't know if we will be able to drive 1/2 hr., feed the horse, turn him out, 1 1/2 hr. total, drive 1 1/2 hrs to Lafayette, drive the same distance, then go back and feed and put up the horse by 6 PM. That is a total of 5 hours of dr...

Overall - pretty cool... I question the haute pieces on the pauldrons, though. Should they be the same size, or shouldn't the right be a little smaller? Also, shouldn't they be a tad higher up on the shoulder & closer to the neck? It seems to me that being that far apart, it would serve to trap a we...

So let me get this straight - you are so poor you can't afford $50.00 worth of leather, but you can afford several hundred dollars worth of pre-made kydex or modern sports equipment? As far as rich is concerned, my Dad was a union sheet metal worker who worked 10 + hours a day to support our fairly ...

I thought he said "Wax the leather". I use mink oil, which is a grease, and while expensive, is less oily than neat's foot, and can be polished up nicely. I use it on all my horse tack as well as armour strapping. On belts and pouches, scabbards and shields it works well. On the flesh side of bear o...

Well, they do have that not-for-profit tax exempt educational status, don't they? Fortunately, the IRS and the feds are pretty stupid, so I would guess they will continue along their merry way until some files a complaint and the IRS sees it can get more money...wait, I am choking on my beer here, t...
