I wish someone would have explained all of this to my mother's Arabian. That mare jumped laterally six feet at a canter when a sparrow flew up from behind a haybale. If she would have known she couldn't do this (because of the informed discussion on this thread) I'd never have fallen on my butt!! If...

Sorry, I've yet to try it, so I don't know. For standard exterior acrylic latex housepaint, Theresa Darby told me 50/50.
I am going to paint my entire Viking tent a diluted rust/tan colour to look like aged dirty linen canvas. I really hope Tim is incorrect!!!!

I dunno, Bob. After taking your course, the only way I would consider meeting you in one-on-one combat is if you would give me the advantage of being mounted. Now if I can just raise $50,000.00 for that Lucitano in Lisbon and the $5,000.00 import/quarrantine fee we could test this theory!

Panther told me no - paint it instead with a diluted acrylic latex if it is flame resistant as chemicals will remove this coating. They recommend Liquitex.

There is a difference between cavalry charging a fixed defensive position with holes dug, sharpened stakes planted, shields and pikes fixed and covered by archers as in Agincourt. A heavy cavalry will slaughter archers not protected by pikemen, and will out flank a fixed position not covered by arch...

There was a great deal of discussion on this in Regia's e-group. Nigel was the only one who could wear soft turnshoes, and he said it took a great deal of work to do. The rest all used a stiffer sole. I don't recall any providence for this specifically, although there is, I believe, evidence of clum...

As soon as I can afford it (after I pay taxes next month), I'll order a set. With two riveted haulberks, 1 pair of chausses, 3 coifs (one as a camail, one as an attached coif & one a seperate coif) and a pair of mittens, I'm going to need to be able to repair and modify this stuff.

Moccassin-grade moose-hide, as thick a piece of elk as you can find, or whatever you can successfully turn (wet, if necessary) of veg. tanned cowhide. Earlier period shoes were frequently game hides, and little more than leather socks. For riding a horse, (as a Norman, 1066-1150) I've added a thick ...

I'd like to know what you are using to cast stainless. I have trouble getting white bronze to remain at flow temp. A kiln? A torch? If a torch, what volume can you maintain at flow? Please, tell us more!

Deer hide makes for a good grip, and I've used goat and pig skin as well. Basically, you are using garment-weight leather stretched over wood (with a real sword). If you are building up a handle in a blunt or SCA sword, it might be different.
